Apple Now Offering Free Recycling For All Used Products At Retail Stores

ABC News reports that Apple will now begin accepting used products at all of its retail stores worldwide. The company has had a recycling program for quite some time, but the terms for trading in a product would vary by device category.

Previously, customers who were looking to recycle an iPad or a Mac had to fill out an online form and ship the device in with a prepaid label. Apple retail stores would only accept iPhones and iPods for recycling.

Now, users can bring in any used Apple product to any retail store around the world, where the company will recycle them for free. All devices will be accepted at no charge, however, those who bring in a device in relatively good condition will receive a store gift card.

During an interview on Monday, Apple vice president of environmental initiatives Lisa Jackson said:

“What the company wants to do is use all our innovation and all of our expertise to make the planet more secure and make the environment better.”

In 2011, Apple made changes to its recycling program to include more devices and accept older computers. The company introduced an iPhone trade-in program last year that allows customers to trade in an iPhone for a gift card that can be used toward the purchase of a new device. Over the past year Apple has expanded its iPhone trade-in program to multiple countries, including Canada and France.
