Here’s Everything New in macOS 27 Golden Gate [VIDEO]
The first developer beta of macOS 27, officially named Golden Gate, has landed. Rather than introducing experimental interface overhauls, Apple is spending this software cycle on performance optimizations, and fixing UI complaints left behind by macOS Tahoe.
The most significant architectural shift in macOS 27 is the complete removal of support for Intel-based Macs. Golden Gate runs exclusively on Apple Silicon, requiring an M-series chip or the A18 Pro processor found in the new MacBook Neo.
By cutting legacy x86 hardware loose, Apple has heavily optimized the operating system core specifically for its own architecture. Thanks to a thoroughly re-engineered CPU scheduler, macOS 27 brings noticeable speed improvements across daily tasks. Apple states that application launch times are up to 30% faster compared to previous versions.
File management and connectivity also received a massive boost. AirDrop transfers are up to 80% faster, and network file browsing is significantly snappier. Furthermore, data transfers to local external drives are now up to five times faster. Even web browsing benefits from this optimization, with Safari delivering faster start page loading and smoother scrolling.
When Apple introduced its translucent Liquid Glass design language in macOS Tahoe, it faced considerable criticism regarding visual clarity and text legibility. In response, macOS 27 delivers a highly requested feature i.e. a global Liquid Glass transparency slider located directly inside the System Settings appearance panel.
