Apple Preparing iOS 7.1.2 Update to Fix iMessage Glitch

You may recall that the frustration caused by lost or incorrectly delivered iMessages experienced by users who switched to Android has even triggered a legal attack on Apple. The issue isn’t new, but it was recently made worse by a server glitch, according to an Apple statement sent to Re/code.

Imessage not delivered

The iMessage service was introduced back in 2011, and allows Apple customers to send text messages and photos bypassing the carrier charges for SMS or MMS messages. The service relies on Apple’s messaging system, which intercepts the message sent to another Apple device and re-routes it through its servers. The “only” issue is that it proved to be problematic, but the major problem is being experienced by those who leave the Apple ecosystem.

In a statement provided to Re/code, Apple said that it is preparing a software update to fix the issue, which is iOS 7.1.2.

“We recently fixed a server-side iMessage bug which was causing an issue for some users, and we have an additional bug fix in a future software update,” Apple told Re/code in a statement. “For users still experiencing an issue, please contact AppleCare.”

With a little more than a week to WWDC, when Apple will introduce iOS 8, the guys from MacRumors have spotted devices running iOS 7.1.2 in their Web logs.

The recent statement from Apple suggests that the update is on the horizon, and will include the iMessage fix, as well (hopefully) as other bug fixes. You may recall that a security issue made waves earlier this month, so we can expect a fix for the iOS 7 flaw that leaves email attachments unencrypted.
