Apple No Longer Allowing Updates and Reinstallation of Refunded Apps

According to a report from Fantastical developer Michael Simmons, Apple is no longer allowing users to update or reinstall App Store apps that have been refunded.

Apple has never had a way for customers to directly request a refund for an app. However, if you report a problem with your purchase there will be a way to request a refund.

Previously, customers who were granted a full refund of an app from the App Store were still allowed to update that app. Apple has patched this hole in both the iOS and Mac App Store. Here is the error message that now notifies users when they try to updated or reinstall a refunded app:

Update Unavailable with This Apple ID

This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded and cancelled.

This is great news for developers, who I’m sure will be happy to see that Apple has finally issued a patch. Let us know how you feel about the latest App Store patch from Apple.
