Apple Issues MacBook Air EFI Firmware Update 2.8
Apple has just released an EFI (Extensible Firmware Interface) firmware update, version 2.8 for its latest models of the MacBook Air, specifically models from mid-2013 and early 2014. The update addresses reliability issues when waking up from sleep while some external devices are connected via USB or Thunderbolt:
This update is recommended for MacBook Air (mid 2013 and early 2014) models.
This update improves reliability when waking from sleep and when booting while certain USB and Thunderbolt devices are connected.
This update also addresses a rare memory issue that may cause the system to randomly reboot, and an issue where the system may not properly sleep the built-in display when an external display is connected while running Windows using Boot Camp.
Also included was a fix for a memory issue which would cause random reboots and another fix to address sleep issues when an external display is connected while running Windows with Boot Camp.
Apple last issued its 2.7 EFI firmware update last October, when it addressed issues with Boot Camp.
Yesterday Apple released an SMC 2.0 update for its mid-2013 MacBook Air.
