Withings Health Mate: Track Your Steps and Measure Your Heart Rate [Review]
Though Health Mate is designed to integrate with Withings health products, it’s still useful on its own. It works well as both a pedometer and a heart rate measuring device.
Health Mate looks great, works well as a pedometer and measures heart rate accurately
Using just the Health Mate app you can automatically keep track of your steps, manually measure your heart rate with the camera and manually enter in your weight and blood pressure. If you spend hundreds of dollars, you can get products like a scale that sends your weight to the Health Mate app each time you step on it (you may recall their scale was in Apple’s recent ‘Chicken fat’ TV ad spot). All measurements taken or entered are shown daily on your Timeline where goals and and your progress can be tracked in your Dashboard.
I liked Health Mate–it’s intuitive to use and looks great. I also thought being able to check my pulse with the camera was pretty neat. I just placed my finger on the camera and it measured my heart rate accurately. However, it crashed a few times after taking a measurement, which was surprising since my heart rate really wasn’t shocking.
Also, the pedometer was pretty accurate as long as I was walking more than a few steps. It rarely noticed when I took 10 or fewer steps. Though I think this was a good thing, because a couple steps here and there really doesn’t count as being active.
Navigation is easy with slide out menu and you can access the Withings store from Health Mate
If you’re looking for a good pedometer that can also accurately measure your heart rate and chart your activity daily, you can download Health Mate for free on the App Store. Then, tell us what your think of Health Mate or tell us about the fitness app you prefer.
