Samsung All Set to Copy Apple Watch; NFC and Mobile Payments Coming Soon
Earlier this month, Sunny Lee, CEO of Samsung, when asked about Apple’s likely debut of a wearable, had said that “this is what we want”, indicating they can’t wait to copy what Apple has to offer and today already, the Korean copycat giant has announced that its next smartwatch will also feature NFC and mobile payments, just like the Apple Watch does, Business Korea reports (via PhoneArena).

According to the Korean publication, Samsung is working with PayPal and Synaptics, a leading biometrics verification specialist company, to integrate a quick and easy mobile payment system in the Gear S successor, which will reportedly employ a fingerprint scanner for verification. It is also said that the new wallet system will have its own app, which will notify users of deals nearby and allow them to pick out the item they want to purchase.
A high-ranking official at Samsung Electronics commented, “We are currently developing the smart watch equipped with fingerprint identification technology and relevant solutions through cooperation with PayPal, the world’s most renowned financial transaction service company, as well as Synaptics, a global company specialized in biometric verification. By the earliest, the third generation smart watch to be released early next year will have this new system in which payment is authorized immediately when users identify themselves through biometric sensors such as a fingerprint or login.”
It seems that Samsung will once again rush to launch its next generation smartwatch, as the Apple Watch is set to be released early next year as well.

Gotta love the copy cats lol
Well they have to make a buck, what gets me about them is they do this, and say that they are more innovative then Apple or anyone else they copy. If they just said ” you are damn right we are coping this” then it would be easier to take them as a company. Hell there are Chinese companies who will tell you they are coping the iphone, and not make any apologies about it, because they feel they are making a cheaper version for everyone else (all good if they don’t infringe on patents)
Just like the iPhone 6 copied Android with its bigger size and NFC? All companies copy each other. Yes even Apple.
Really? Shut up. If it wasn’t for Apple and iPhone there would be no Android. Ponder that SamFans.
If it wasn’t for Xerox PARC, which Apple ripped off GUI technology from, there would be no Mac, no OSX, and ultimately no iPhone. Ponder that.
Android was in development well before the iPhone came out. Yes, the iPhone did shift the direction of Android phones, in particular the removal of the hardware keyboard (the original android, the G1 didn’t even start with a software keyboard). But if you remember, the original iPhone lacked some key features that are commonplace today as well, including support for third party native apps (originally the idea was all third party apps would just be HTML web apps). And that’s a feature that existed as far back as old feature phones.
That is fact of the matter. Apple did put together the worlds first “smart phone” with a touch screen. Everyone else followed suit and copied it. Now everyone has it.
Umm. I’m not a “SamFan” as you say. I’m just stating the facts. Deal with it or be a whiny baby. I don’t care either way.
How are they copying Apple when they had a watch months earlier and NFC years earlier?
Because they couldn’t think on their own to combine the two …Not to mention Samsung only decided to build a watch after Apple Watch rumours started a few years back.
Usman being an I sheep runs through your puny brain as apple has brainwashed you to think that they invented everything. So what was that about apple never using NFC and phablets? So apple copied android widgets, nfc, bigger screens, notifications and now they are caught up in 2012 android phones. My LG Optimus G far out classes iPhone 6 and 6 plus, maybe iPhone 8 can beat my LG g1, but by then it would just equal the g2. Wake up sheep and realize that apple is 2-4 years behind and they have always been shameless in stealing other people’s works.
