Pre-orders of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus surpassed 2 million in China on the first day of pre-sales, multiple Chinese media outlets reported (via AppleInsider).

Although the aforementioned sources published “incomplete statistics,” Tercent Tech’s sources revealed that China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom took pre-orders for a combined 1 million units while retailers took the second half of pre-orders.

Apple issued a press release saying that pre-orders will only start on Friday October 10, as the device will be available in stores starting Friday October 17. The same press release noted that Apple’s carrier partners, China Mobile, China Telecom, and China Unicom will start accepting pre-orders on October 10.

This didn’t stop the carriers from taking pre-orders 10 days ahead of schedule. As the first wave of pre-orders reveals, the demand is high: the 2 million units in 6 hours adds to the 10 million units pre-ordered on the first day of availability.

The iPhone 6 will be available for a suggested retail prices of 5,288 (RMB) for the 16GB model, 6,088 (RMB) for the 64GB model and the 128GB model for 6,888 (RMB). iPhone 6 Plus is priced at 6,088 (RMB) for the 16GB model, 6,888 (RMB) for the 64GB model, and 7,788 (RMB) for the new 128GB model.

Not bad considering only about a 5th of the population (if that) can afford one.

At least now the backorders will ease up as many people were snatching up the iPhone 6 simply to sell in China for a huge profit.
