LTE iPad Air 2 Includes ‘Apple SIM Card’ to Choose US/UK Carrier Plans–Canada Too?

Apple’s iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 models with cellular connectivity will include a preinstalled “Apple SIM Card”, which will allow users to choose plans from carriers in the US and the UK. To start, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and EE in the UK, according to the device’s Wireless page:

What about Canada? Apple’s fine print on their Apple.com page notes “Participating carriers are subject to change,” so we could see support for Rogers, Telus and Bell soon.

On Apple Canada’s iPad Air 2 checkout page, the following is noted:

Do all iPad models use the same type of SIM card?

No. iPad Air 2 with Wi-Fi + Cellular and iPad mini 3 with Wi-Fi + Cellular can use either the Apple SIM card or a carrier-supported nano-SIM card. iPad Air, iPad mini 2 and iPad mini use a nano-SIM card. All other iPad models use a micro-SIM card. Micro-SIM cards cannot be used in devices that use the Apple SIM or another nano-SIM card.

So this gives hope for Canadian iPad Air 2 users SIM cards will come preinstalled here. Rogers, Telus and Bell have vast LTE networks that Apple probably loves, so it just makes sense for our carriers to support this as well. We’ll find out soon enough.
