starting at 13000 for 18-carat gold?? MAD!!!
Its not just gold, its ceramic and gold LOL.
LMAO!
it was also funny how fast Tim Cook dipped out as soon as he said that lolololol…
LOL I noticed too and thought the same thing!!
Clearly Apple Watch edition is for celebrities and rich people… Wow.
no kidding, Even if I was rich not sure I would pay the 22k, not a fan of yellow gold anyway.
lmao… Not going to lie tho.. I am still getting the watch sport or the watch, haven’t decided yet… *flees away***
Except for the band choices the watch isn’t worth it, just get the sport, besides looks like it would be more durable.
I know… so conflicted… LOL..
You could get the sport, and later, buy a different band, the bands though are expensive, 200 for a band???
right? so why not get the steel?
im using my vacation pay to get the large face sport
might get the smaller face one if I ever get one, only because the bigger watches I have bang into everything
Trust me, if you’re rich, you (or anybody) will think differently.
Oh, its not that I wouldn’t spend money, but the higher priced version has limited options in kind of gold. I would just buy a 2k standard one lol
I used to love when the exchange rate wasn’t so bad… Oh well…
30% + , that where the stick shock is. The pricing in USD was not bad at all, but add the market up and it socks. I would have bought a gold version if not for the exchange lrate, just kidding. I still want a steel version but Apple might have price me out of the link Bracelet. All well I hope there is going to be after market Bracelet or I can rig my old Tag Heuer Bracelet to fit it.
Canadian prices are ridiculous
They are… but the exchange rate is… it’s not Apple fault… 349US = 439 CAN and 399US = 502CAN
Yeah but if you get it in the states you don’t have to add on 13% on top of that for taxes. Actually next time I go down to see my mom might hit Delaware, tax free shopping lol
Looks like the best exchange rate is the $19k 42mm Edition @1.267 and the Watch on rubber $699 @ 1.273. 🙂
Of course you are factoring in the duty less your exemption when you declare your purchases as you cross back into Canada. Plus the tax on the declared value. Just saying. 😉
Crazy prices, but Apple will sellout.
LOL you are assuming I would declare anything. Besides you get like 800 if you stay over 48 hours, If I do this it would be on a visity so I will be there for 10 days.
sport version it is! good thing i have christmas gift cards still. the
So… Where is dear friend Al? He qualified the people who said the gold watch to be priced between $10,000 to $20,000 as idiots. Lo and behold, the gold watch starts at USD10K!
LOL they’re no idiots, just rich.
Ok, maybe some rich idiots involved.
Al, care to respond? Lol
I can feel the tech world laughing at these prices right now.
I know right 😛
Cant believe people are still going to buy these
Don’t you worry, these prices will become the norm and by the 4th addition people will be dying to pay these prices, and other companies will follow.
Hopefully by then the watch will serve some sort of purpose… and will last longer than a day or less -_-
Provided that it actually does something everyone wants…. Well, waaaaay too early to tell right now, but I really like to see how this turns out in a year.
Can someone explain to me the difference b/w the watch and the sport? All I see is the glass over screen and bands – are there any other differences?
Sport : Aluminium, and plastic bands.
Watch: Steel, and more bands.
This warrants mentioning in two threads. Please don’t waste your money on this thing. It’s a gimmick. 18 hours of battery life with “normal usage”!? That means for many there will be frequent days where it dies before you get it home. Battery anxiety all day, everyday. This thing royally sucks. And yes, an Apple Watch is not timeless like a luxury watch. You’re not going to keep it around forever. Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.
From The Verge:
“Apple is really running into the same problem as Pebble and Android Wear — sure, you can put apps on this thing, but you’ve got a bigger screen, a better battery, and faster processor in your pocket.
So much of this is just: that thing you could do on your phone, you can do on your watch. I get that it’s nice to have a thing on your wrist sometimes, and not have to fumble around in your pockets. But am I going to want to spend $350+ for the privilege every couple years?”
More like 4 hours of real usage.
You would think that since the charger is on the back, it could just get power off of your skin lol
I was going to get one, to add NFC to my 5S but kind of pricey better off saving my case for an iPhone 6, not quite sure why they would price them so high. Although I did expect the the watch one to be round that price.
Updated prices. $22K at the highest 18k model! Booya!
Notice that the highest priced ones are all 38mm size and are on Red or Rose straps. I think Apple has a specific demographic they are targeting.
Women is obviously their priority. A watch is basically an accessory, and Apple Watch is being marketed as fashionable. Notice most of their showing on recent magazines are worn by females? Even the guess speaker is a woman! An unordinary one too! Get the hidden message?
I don’t think 38mm is all that small actually. but I see what you are saying
Good catch, I never noticed that!
“I think Apple has a specific demographic they are targeting.”
Ya, it’s called rich folks
Stupid rich folks, I know lots of wealthy who buy $20 casio from Walmart, like my parents and their friends. Some rich people are super cheap and frugal. They rather donate the money to a cause they believe in than give to Apple. To each his own!
thanks Gary this is very helpful. Did you notice the apple website lets you favourite the watch combinations you’re interested in?
And I though size matter to women?
Booya is right. There will be new versions coming out each year and these prices will drop like crazy. These watches are not automatic watches like Omega and Rolex which can’t be update by software and new chips.
It’s an assumption that a new one will come out every year. Maybe the Watch will be on a 2-year upgrade cycle. It’s reasonable to expect people won’t upgrade every year.
Every human should have one, not I find gold so tacky. The better option buy a steel version and take the rest of the cash and buy an one oz bar off gold, a way better investment.
I expect Al to be quite silent. He called people idiots for speculating the pricing being over $10,000.
Do you blame him, 5k maybe, 22k is kind of out there for and apple product. Sure if its was some other high end brand but Apple?
Problem is, he was flat out wrong in the end. And he insulted people. Nothing wrong with having an opinion, but don’t go calling people names when you don’t have a clue yourself.
It’s hilarious to me how people get so offended by typed words, given that the same sort of things are spoken by everyone in normal daily conversations.
Glad to see you missed me. I spent the entire day trying to diagnose and repair an issue with my PC, and I’m still not done.
I was clearly quite wrong. I am the idiot.
Although, based on the comments here, it now appears that the general consensus is that anyone who is willing to spend that kind of money on a watch (especially one that is going to be out of date in a year) is likely not right in the head, or just has more money than god).
Dude, don’t you have a Mac?
I had planned to get my first Mac after today’s event, depending on what was announced in the notebook product range. But I write software for Windows so I have no choice but to also have a PC… unfortunately.
Apple also increased Mac prices today in the Canadian store :/
You could always get a rMBP and install Parallels.
Just run a VM. No need to buy a PC. I run multiple OS’s on my Mac.
That’s the plan… sort-of. I need a new notebook, so… Parallels on a notebook for out-of-office work, demos, etc.
My high-end Windows PC, though, is not yet ready to be tossed just because of a faulty 3rd party component and a suddenly temperamental BIOS. A Mac can’t replace it (maybe a Mac Pro could). One day…
42mm with classic leather buckle with tax will be $1039!!!
Wow. Can’t imagine…. 🙁
Did you se the prices on the bands, crazy, its like a huge part of the price. 200 for a classic band???
One question I have: It says the Apple Watch Sport ships with 2 bands (one smaller one and a bigger one) Can you choose different colours for them? (Apple chat was useless)
I don’t believe so. Probably just 2 sizes of the same colour in the box.
Where’s apple pay?
They mentioned it in the keynote, about whole foods or something
I can see getting a smart watch if you have a huge phablet and don’t want to or can’t lug it out everytime. And Apple has something with adding health and activity applications as well, but I will wait till gen two. and see if these becomes Apples PowerGloves
Now you’re getting the idea.
I would really like one. But the pricing is pretty crazy.
Hummm Apple watch or Madonna tickets?? What to choose. lol
Madonna!
””””””””””””””
Any idea what apple care will be on this? It will probably be worth while given that it’s a first generation and the cost should be acceptable. My guess: $75 and $50 for each accident
I think its mentioned on the site when you pick one
The website only shows the black sport band available with the space grey aluminum case. Looks like you have both black items together and cannot change it?
nothing wrong with that it looks cool
Yeah but so much for “customization”. You should be able to get the casing of your choice with the band of your choice. Could be because the black aluminium will be on limited stocks at first
The pricing is ridiculous. I love apple products, but seriously a watch that is the same price as the new Mac book? Come on…
Looking at the Apple website. Can one get the 42mm Space Black Case with Black Classic Buckle and priced at $920 still? Basically will we pay more for the different in the case color or the combination exist?
A second look. There is a difference of $150 CDN between stainless steel case with link vs its all space black version. That sucks. Looks like they are making the space black cost more!!!! 🙁
I have really wanted the black apple watch with the black steel band since they showed it $1500 in Canada though. Seems steep. I think I might crunch some numbers and see if it might be cheaper to head over the border and pick it up for $1100
Those prices are nuts.. realistically why pay $500 for a 1.5 inch screen to browse instagram or your eBay listings. You still need to hold your phone with you.. might as well JUST use your phone. Look how dumb you will look trying to text people back by yelling at your wrist. Just use your phone….
How fast will Kim Kardashian have the gold Apple Watch, probably already ordered.
Pretty expensive actually for an add on to my phone
In wouldn’t even consider any of these watches until Apple pay is available in Canada, which could be never, also the prices are increasing on almost all Apple products because of our shitty dollar being traded at .79 cents. Ridiculous.
Now is the best time to become a thief. $22k off a lady’s hands, then go and melt that gold.
Why is he space grey Apple watch with link strap more expensive than the stainless steel? On the website it says both stainless steel and space grey stainless steel with sport bands start at 700?
Yeap, pretty steep for this first watch/band (in my case 1299$ for the 48mm/steel band), but the real question is: will this (449$) steel band still fit the next gen watch (and 3rd, 4th, etc.) ? If that’s the case, then we’ll only have to pay a new watch and keep the band, so 2nd, 3th…. will be more affordable.
Who is actually going to use this? What is the point?
I dont get what this watch actually ‘does’? Why would I want to do any of my normal phone related activities on a smaller, more awkward to use screen?
Add to that that I hate wearing a watch, often break them and this particular watch looks very bulky on the wrist and it seems like a very expensive paper weight.
If you want the Apple Watch Sport (base model of the Apple Watch), here are the prices you pay across the globe in CAD$ as of today (keep in mind that exchange rates will change by the time the watch is out).

Apple out of their minds? For the price, I’d rather invest on a nice piece of timepiece. Something that appreciates its value over time rather than the opposite. Too much of thos wearable thing. Need alert! Nerd alert! Lol! Wannabe alert! Wannabe alert! Wahaha!
lol at these prices, just lol.
