Yesterday, NBC added the NBC Sports Live Extra channel to the Apple TV. Apple looks to have added the channel to help increase the number of available sports apps on the set-top box.

“In addition to the Stanley Cup Playoffs and Triple Crown, Live Extra streams all live sports content televised by NBC, NBCSN and Golf Channel, including: the Summer and Winter Olympics; Sunday Night Football and NBC’s NFL pre-season and post-season coverage; NHL regular-season games; the PGA TOUR, including the FedExCup Playoffs, and the LPGA; the Premier League; studio content surrounding many of the aforementioned properties; original programming such as The Dan Patrick Show and Men In Blazers; and much more.”

The NBC Sports channel on the Apple TV delivers a variety of sporting event videos and clips that air on NBC. The app includes access to video clips, previews of upcoming events, and highlights from past events. Rick Cordella, SVP & GM of the NBC Sports Group, said:

“We are thrilled to bring our unprecedented portfolio of content to the hugely popular Apple TV platform. Beginning today, Apple TV viewers will have access to NBC Sports Live Extra’s award-winning streaming of some of the most prestigious properties in sports, including the Olympics, Sunday Night Football, Stanley Cup Playoffs, Triple Crown and more.”

NBC Sports on the Apple TV also offers live NBC Sports events and full event replays. The service includes more than 3,000 live sporting events per year, including exclusive coverage of the most popular events in sports. Video clips and other content will be available to all users, however, watching live content will require a cable subscription.

Currently, the NBC Sports Live Extra channel is only available to customers in the United States. As Apple continues to include more sports content on the Apple TV, we hope that Canadians will also get access to live sporting events in the near future.

I thought this was iPhone in CANADA. An article like this should be prefaced with US Only so as not to get our hopes up till the last sentence.

I agree with Gord, was a little bit of a bait and switch….. Plus, there is no way in 12 whole years that this app would come to Canada with Live hockey. Rogers….. NHL App…. Game Centre…

Anyone know any way to get this to work with Unblock-US or another method? I want to cut the cable with Rogers, just need to be able to get English Premier League soccer games! Can already get MLS soccer games, just one last hurdle.
