Users Can Now Post Comments Directly on Dropbox Files

Dropbox has today debuted a new feature that allows all users to add comments to files. Last month, the feature was teased to Dropbox for Business Early Access customers but now, it has been made available to all Basic, Pro, and Dropbox for Business users, providing users with an option to get work done without needing to open or having to download a shared file at all.

Commenting ss final

The comments will appear in a new comments pane when previewing files online, and Dropbox will also send you an email notification for each comment left on your files. Furthermore, users can @mention collaborators to direct comments at specific people. To do so, simply type the “@” sign followed by their email address. When you mention someone, they will also receive an email about it, unless they opt out of email notifications.

The new Dropbox comments feature is also coming to mobile, though the company hasn’t revealed exact timing beyond simply saying “soon”.

“Our Dropbox for Business early access users have been trying out commenting for the past month. Thanks to their great feedback, we’re excited to roll out commenting to all our users today on the web (and coming soon on mobile).

With comments, you can now have conversations around Dropbox files, both on the files you own and the files people share with you. This keeps your conversations organized in one place, and provides a way to gather feedback in just one step”.

To try out the new feature, simple head over to dropbox.com, click on any file and add a comment on the right.
