VW Announces Apple Watch App, Brings Speeding Alerts

German car maker Volkswagen has today announced the launch of its all new Apple Watch app, that works with VW’s Car-Net service that offers all the standard smart features car manufacturers have recently built into their mobile apps (via TechCrunch). One feature however that deserves attention is speed and boundary alerts on your wrist.

With the Car-Net Apple Watch app, users can set up alerts when a specific driver in the family exceeds a set speed cap or leaves a certain location boundary. Having the same notifications on the phone is also great for parents but it’s easy to lose or ignore such notifications in the middle of all the things pinging on your phone. But with Apple Watch, the Car-Net messages will really stand out. “If they get too annoying, it’s probably time to have a chat with the teen about safe driving or keeping you in the loop about their whereabouts”.

The Car-Net® app for Apple Watch will allow VW customers to control a host of features and functions that are available through the Car-Net mobile app and Customer Web Portal directly from their wrist. Owners can keep an eye on their vehicle from afar, remotely locking* and unlocking doors and viewing the status of doors, windows and sun roof (open or closed). Finding a parked vehicle is a snap, with a map of the current vehicle location, walking or driving directions to the vehicle and the ability to honk the horn and flash the lights remotely. Customers can also receive speed and boundary alert notifications to monitor certain drivers in their households.

Another handy feature of the VW’s Apple Watch App is remote unlocking of the cars from the wrist, which will work for cars from the 2016 model year.
