Today, Google has announced plans to launch a new app called Street View, which will let anyone submit a photo sphere (panoramic image) to Google Maps.

The app will replace Photo Sphere Camera on the App Store and will allow anyone to submit photo sphere images to Maps, instead of just Google and authorized contributors (currently Google’s Views community). Any images submitted will be added to Maps, if and only if the image is approved by Google.

Google Views will be completely ported over to Maps by mid-August, at which point the Views service will shut down.

The Street View app will support two 360-degree cameras at launch: the NCTech iris360 ($1,999) and the Giroptic 360cam ($499).

Google’s Street View app for iOS and Android will launch in August. At the time of launch, the company will also rebrand the Google Maps Business View as “Street View | Trusted” and make it easier to become a certified photographer.
