In 2026, Apple is refreshing how ads appear on the App Store with new top banner ads and more running on search results.
Yahoo Weather for iOS Adds Breaking Rain or Snow Alerts for Canada and Beyond
Yahoo Weather for iOS has now gained worldwide breaking weather alerts for rain and snow. The company says 15 minutes prior to rain or now, users will get a push notification to their phone.
The company says they “took some major steps to overhaul the way we determine and serve forecasts. The app will even zoom in on microclimates.”

its not even that, even in Toronto it things i am in north York which can have a temperature difference and even rain when it isn’t downtown. stupid apps lol
Well, sure. Here in Edmonton it’s not at all uncommon for rain to come through that hits only the west end, or only the downtown core, or only the east side, etc., and the weather app will say, “It’s raining outside!” when in your area of the city, it’s not. But that’s always been a “feature” of weather forecasts even pre-app. Hence the “40% chance of rain” caveats, which mean that 40% of the forecast area may get rain while 60% may not get rain.
This seems to be the same trash it has always been. The app doesn’t give me any indication whether it is using general Toronto data from the airport or whether it is localized to my area of the city like The Weather Network app does. If it is the former and just general data, what is the point in the rain or snow alerts then when it can be hailing on one side of the city and sunny on the other side?
