Public Mobile has exited its beta stage and now SIM cards are available for order to the general public, for free, as customers have been receiving the following email:
Hello there! Public Mobile here.
We know some of you have been waiting for a while to join us in BETA and we really appreciate your patience. Our invite-only phase has ended and you can now order a SIM card from our website.
Here are the steps provided by the company on how to order your SIM card, which is a 3-in-1 Triple Punch SIM card that supports standard, micro and nano SIM slots:
1. Click on ‘Order now’ and provide us with your information so we can ship you a Triple Punch SIM card. It’s all three sizes in one card.
2.Your SIM card should arrive within 3-7 business days.
3. When you receive your SIM card, visit activate.publicmobile.ca to build your plan and set up your account.
Back in February, TELUS-owned Public Mobile launched new self serve plans and a rewards program. Earlier this month, new 10 day and 90 day plan options were added, making it possible to get something like an unlimited North America talk plan (Canada/USA) with 2GB of data for $57.49 per month, contract-free.

Gary, do you know if they have put any restrictions on how many customers can sign up? I ask because if so then I’m thinking of ordering a sim. My current contract with Fido ends in September/October & I’d be saving $20.00 a month.
I believe it’s now open to the public with no limitations to my knowledge. You’d be on the Telus network, not bad for those savings.

i dont need a voice and text plan. Family and friends all use iphones so we use imessage and facetime. Bell Rogers and Telus said no to a data only plan for my iphone. Not Public. Finally i get to choose what i want and im not forced to get what the big tell me i need where i end up paying for services i dont use. Absolutely liberating. Finaly i can get my data only plan for my iphone.
You can do this with the big 3 as well. Just get sim “for an ipad” and subscribe to a tablet plan.
I should add, it’s way cheaper to do this than going with the public mobile plans. $35 will get you 5gb with fido. I’ve been doing it for years.
I heard people were doing this last year. I makes me nervous to do it because I have no trust in the big 3. I’ve always had this feeling that the big 3 will find a way to detect a persons device and if they find an iPhone using an iPad plan, they would start charging pay per use data rates, not say anything to the person to warn them, and when people got their thousand plus bills, the big 3 would fall back on their terms of agreement policy forcing people to pay. I don’t trust them. I don’t trust any of them.
I’ve ordered a card for use during an upcoming ten day visit to Toronto. Will report back.
