Poll: What iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus Model Did You Pre-Order?

Did you partake in this weekend’s iPhone 6s pre-order festivities? Apple kicked things off online on early Saturday morning, while our Rogers, TELUS, Bell, Fido, Virgin and SaskTel followed suit shortly.

Take our unscientific poll: which iPhone 6s model did you pre-order? Let’s see what’s popular and what’s not out there:

Looking at Apple’s website, the iPhone 6s Plus looks to be the popular model (or the iPhone 6s had more stock?) as all configurations are showing an ‘Available to ship’ period of 3-4 weeks.

Really? Rose Gold? That many people want a pink phone?

Depending on the light it can look pretty great, but it does look pretty pink often. I think a few too many people only saw the shots on Apple’s website. Nothing against a pink phone, it’s just not for me.

Can you get the carrier discount when buying the phone at the Apple Store?

Great! Thank you Gary. I was worried I had to pay full cost if picking up at Apple Store…

yes, but be careful they can’t always offer you the best deal, you will have to talk to them on the phone and make sure. Fido always grandfathers in my data plan, worried that I will loose it if i go through apple.

I’m keeping my 5S for at least 2 more years. It’s still working well. I never understood the point of getting a new phone or any electronic device every year when the actual one is still working fine.

status. it’s all about status. the newer the iPhone you have, the more money you have to throw around .. or throw away.

In the west, iPhones are so much everywhere that I don’t know if people really buy them as status symbols, even subconsciously. It’s not exactly like rolling around in a new BMW.

The 5s is actually smoother than the 6 Plus (not s). The low number of pixels and A7 processor work really well together.

moving back to an iPhone (this time 6s Space Gray – 128 GB) from the Android lineup. I miss listening to my music through iTunes and I already have a bunch of devices in the Apple ecosphere, so it will just work for me. The only real thing I will miss will be Swift-Key keyboard for Android with its ability to access a second row of keys by holding on the key for a longer period, but I have hope that swift key will address this soon for Apple.

Won’t buy one for that price. Apple think they can do what they want but this year will stay with my phone and see next year

Price is insane, but if you’re selling your 6/6 Plus and getting this one the resale value is also way up, so it’s pretty much the same. But yeah, sticker shock.

It’s not Apple, it’s the Big Three Idiots killing us on prices. The subsidized price in the US for a 16GB iPhone 6s is $199USD. In CND that would be around $260 but the The Big Three Idiots are charging $400. That’s an additional $140. The Idiots will say that the additional cost is because of the loss of one year on contracts which if you dived the 140 by 12 it’s about $12/month and that makes sense. What doesn’t make sense is two things: 1. In the US they also have two year contracts and still offer the $199 USD price. 2. That even if you accept the inflated price on the phone they want you to change your plan to one of their new ones which give you less for more and when they raised that price it too was because of the lost year (or so they say). At the end of the day this is because both Bell and Rogers over the last few years have made significant purchases in professional sports costing them billions they don’t want to pay. It’s about investors and investors don’t like red so they pass it on to the customer and because of the oligopoly we have no choice. Why would Telus undercut them when they can make more money because of them? Competition is our only savior and it will never happen. O Canada.

True. But the Canadian carriers could get away with these contracts when the C$ was actually overvalued (at 1 USD=1 CAD). At parity, median household income is higher in Canada than in the US. Now that the CAD is undervalued, purchasing power for US imports of course goes down. I think demand will be lower than anticipated by the carriers and they’ll figure out that the on contract price that maximizes profits for them is lower than the $400 they want to charge now.

People have to keep their money in their pockets and tell the telecoms why they are not spending the money. That’s the best way to foster change (aside from real competition)

This idea doesn’t work because of the collusion between all the carriers on price. The only way you can keep the money in your pocket is by not having wireless service. I suspect this is not an option for the majority of people.

Absolutely but for most, and here’s our problem, that’s not an option. The next best thing is to not buy, in all honesty, their most popular device that pushes all their plans. Buy the phone unlocked, or secondhand whatever is possible to make sure The Big Idiots don’t get a taste.

Easy way to fix that. Everyone sign a contract with telus for the next four years. Than the others are forced to go down with the price. Or?

In a perfect world that is what we all would do for sure, force competition. Sadly that is not even close to reality.

Yes it is apple and they only can do it here and nowhere else. They try that in France or Germany nobody even buys one.

I take it you don’t understand how subsidies work? The price of the phone is $899. Rogers pays that to Apple to get the phone. Rogers in turn sells the phone to you at a subsided rate, in this case $398. The remaining $501 is paid by you through your monthly plan at approximately $20/month. Apple is getting nothing more than the original $899 – like I said before it’s the three idiots ensuring they continue to have the highest profit margin in the developed world.

If Apple would ask 799 for the iPhone the price from Roger’s going down. More apple asking more money Roger’s are asking. Didn’t see that with any other phone maker. Even back in March apple increase the price not happened in Europe that’s for sure people would just buy the better phone. And they do apple only have a market share about 8% in Germany. People buying phones they are good and a good price.

So you’re mad that Google can’t afford to raise prices on their handset because they don’t sell well and Apple can because they’re the hottest phone out there?

jay
jay

Why would I get mad? Wouldn’t even buy any phone but I work for a nice company and they give me an apple phone every year. But if your life is looking at your little phone and try to connect with people. Maybe that’s what it is I think nobody should have a phone. Because people don’t talk anymore and that’s bad. But buy all the iphones you want and spend money to feel depressed and alone in this world. And trust me the smallest problem you have that I am getting mad.

Resorting to personal attacks is a testament to the kind of person you are, especially since you know nothing of me. I haven’t ordered a new iPhone despite being eligible for an upgrade. The inflated prices Rogers has present is unacceptable to me as my family comes first. Ironic how you’re against phones and connecting yet you visit an iPhone blog site ….

Instead of upgrading my iPhone, I’m going with an iPad as my daily driver. It will be nice to have a bigger screen, bigger battery, and some new camo cargo pants with a bigger cargo pocket. Got them off eBay. They can carry an iPad Mini or IPad Air 2.

I want split screen on the iPad. I’ve waited years for Apple to do it. Finally.
