iOS 9.3 Brings F.lux-Like Night Shift Mode to iPhone and iPad

Earlier today, Apple released iOS 9.3 beta to developers, bringing improvements to a range of stock apps along with some brand new features such as iPad’s multi-user support for Education. Another great new feature detailed by Apple on the iOS 9.3 preview page is the “Night Shift” mode, which appears to be quite similar to that of F.lux, an automatic screen brightness adjustment app which was pulled by Apple form the App Store shortly after its release.

Apparently the Night Shift feature for iPhone and iPad uses the device’s time and location to present certain colors around the software optimized for darker environments. Here’s what Apple says about it:

Many studies have shown that exposure to bright blue light in the evening can affect your circadian rhythms and make it harder to fall asleep. Night Shift uses your iOS device’s clock and geolocation to determine when it’s sunset in your location. Then it automatically shifts the colors in your display to the warmer end of the spectrum, making it easier on your eyes. In the morning, it returns the display to its regular settings. Pleasant dreams.

Other notable improvements in iOS 9.3 include updated Notes, News, and Health apps. The Notes app now uses the Touch ID feature for logging into apps and has improved sorting options. The News app has improved personalisation, while the Health app now bundles in information from the Apple Watch’s activity app.

Lastly, the CarPlay feature in iOS 9.3 has improved Apple Music integration will full support for New and For You.
