Earlier this morning we learned of Rogers’ $24.99 ‘skinny’ TV pack, posted by the company after it was earlier leaked by an employee to CBC News.
Now it appears a Bell employee has done the same, posting the company’s $24.95 ‘skinny’ TV package on Reddit under a ‘throwaway’ username. The anonymous Bell employee claims “This is not an attempt at fair options, this was purposely crafted to make it undesirable,” referring to the CRTC mandate to offer $25 skinny TV packages as of March 1, 2016.
As you can see below, the starter package contains over 25 channels, which includes U.S. networks and is pretty much identical to offerings from Rogers and Shaw.
A La Cart individual channel purchases are priced at $4-7 depending on popularity, while custom packs offer 10 channels for $37/month:
If you want something like HBO, that will cost you $20/month (depending on location), while sports custom packages are either $7 or $15, or a $25 sports pack if the cost of individual channels exceeds the cost of the custom pack.
The Starter pack does not qualify for the $7 bundle discount, nor HDPVR or TV Sweetener offers, notes the fine details. Check out the full slides of the upcoming TV packages, embedded below:

this just shows that the government cant tell business to do something. 1, it will not be popular, and 2 the businesses will make it not work (spite) . let them sell what they want and if you don’t want it, dont buy it. period.
and, the problem with canada is that there isn’t enough people. we need more babies. start working!!!!
I think these pkgs are just a start they will change over time. I’m happy that the price for basic has come down because prior to this we were paying more for the same crap.
I was happy at first too but then it really isnt a decrease. There is no bundle discount AND you have to pay for the PVR ($15). So you are looking at $40 + tax at least for this bundle. Unless you own a PVR.
anybody in Etobicoke have any good over the air antenna suggestions? i used to be able to get this ‘skinny package’ for free when i lived downtown. but with a balcony facing Mississauga i now seem to get bupkis. 🙁
At an everyday price of $17.95 including the US networks, it is the best deal in the market.
Shaw’s limited package plus 10 channels is $45 plus tax.
Bell’s starter pack is $24.95 and 10 channels is $37 making it $61.95 before taxes.
If I didn’t have to replace all of my hardware, I would switch to Shaw. Bell seems like they were dragged kicking and screaming into this, so I doubt they would entertain any sort of price matching with the competition.
you get the hardware for free from shaw, specially if you’re getting satellite. I switched from rogers, and don’t see any difference in quality
I get a better selection of channels with my OTA antenna (almost 30 in total) and they’re higher quality than the compressed signals you get over coax or a phone line. A good antenna cost me $100, but it’s all free from here on; one of the advantages of living in a border city like Montreal.
Yeah they introduced it but Bell customer service reps have been told NOT to promote it UNLESS the customer initiates the conversation. Burn in Hell Bell!
It’s odd, when I go into my account and check the skinny package from Bell, there are no US channels included.
Not sure what is going on.
I am in Quebec if that makes a difference.
