Fido vs Virgin Plus vs Koodo in May 2026: Higher Prices, Fewer Options
Every month, we go under the hood of the Canadian wireless market to track the shifting strategies of flanker brands Fido, Virgin Plus, and Koodo, alongside their parent companies Rogers, Bell, and Telus.
Let’s dive into the current ‘Bring Your Own Device’ (BYOD) landscape after autopay discounts, shall we?
Fido
- $40/20GB (was $35)
- $45/60GB (was $40)
- $50/60GB (was $49) Canada-US-Mexico
Fido has shed a bunch of plans, including its $55/80GB and $55/100GB plans. Pricing has increased for 20GB and 60GB plans, while the Canada-US-Mexico plan sees a $1 price increase. The 60GB plan also loses US voice and texting.
Virgin Plus
- $40/20GB (was $35)
- $45/60GB (was $40)
- $50/60GB (was $49) Canada-US-Mexico
Virgin has increased prices just like Fido, while axing its $55/100GB plan. Virgin also this week axed its $80 connection fee, ahead of a CRTC deadline to remove the ‘junk fee’.
Koodo
- $40/20GB (was $35)
- $45/60GB (was $40)
- $50/60GB Canada-US-Mexico
- $55/100GB
Gone is the $50/80GB, while Koodo has also increased its entry pricing by $5/month. It remains the outlier with a 100GB plan.
Yeah, it’s obvious right now is a terrible time to jump on a new cellphone plan as there aren’t any real deals out there.
Next up are the prepaid brands Chatr, Lucky Mobile, Public Mobile and Fizz. Stay tuned…
