Alleged iPhone 7 Component Leak Shows 3.5mm Headphone Jack

Don’t hold your breath for an all-in-one Lightning port for the iPhone 7, at least not yet. A recent image published on Chinese microblogging site Weibo and spotted by French blog Nowhereelse, shows a Lightning cable assembly apparently belonging to the upcoming iPhone 7. The surprise element: it includes a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Jack iPhone7 vs iPhone6s HighLights

As you can see from the above image, the alleged iPhone 7 assembly reveals a number of components, such as the cellular antenna cables and the Lightning port. The design is slightly different than that of the same assembly part belonging to the iPhone 6s, but still there is a major similarity: both carry a headphone jack (visible on the left side).

At this point it is impossible to confirm the validity of this image leak, so it could easily show a part belonging to a counterfeit Chinese product. The text below the image suggests this is a possible assembly design for the 4.7-inch version iPhone 7, and questions whether there is a version for the 5.5-inch model.

The image leak — if valid — could come as a relief for those who were hoping Apple will keep the 3.5mm headphone jack. It remains to be seen whether Apple will differentiate the two iPhone models by going with the all-in-one Lightning port with only one of them, possibly with the iPhone 7 Plus (?).
