iPhone 7 Plus Dual Camera Supplier Rumoured to Be LG Innotek

LG Innotek will exclusively supply dual camera module for Apple’s iPhone 7 Plus, reports Business Korea, citing an industry source. Shipments of those modules will commence as early as this month, the source adds.

Earlier rumours mentioned LG Innotek and Sony as suppliers of the dual-camera module for the next generation 5.5-inch iPhone. Sony, however, experienced major issues due to the April earthquake in Kumamoto. While the damages caused by the earthquake have not directly impacted the image sensor segment of Sony’s business, the manufacturer’s sales forecast for this year is pretty dark. Its image sensor for mobile segment is predicted to see a significant decrease year-over-year for various reasons.

Sony’s inability to supply its customers with image sensors affected its customer base, but the company appears to be winning its clients back, so it expects a certain degree of recovery in the second half of the fiscal year.

Meanwhile, the lower-than-expected yield may have moved the balance of dual-camera module orders in favour of LG Innotek, as the Business Korea report claims.

Rumours have suggested that Apple will incorporate dual-camera lens into the 5.5-inch iPhone 7 to further differentiate the handset. The next generation iPhones are expected to launch this fall.
