Primax Rumoured to Be Supplying Dual-Lens Camera Modules for iPhone 7 Plus

Primax Electronics, a Taiwanese manufacturer of camera modules, is expected to provide part of the dual-lens camera modules of the iPhone 7 Plus, according to Chinese newspaper Economic Daily News, as cited by Digitimes (via AppleInsider).

The supplier has recently ramped up its production capacity and expects its revenue to hit new heights, thanks to the increased demand for its compact camera modules and audio products, the Chinese newspaper says. Of the camera module orders, 70% are for 13-megapixel models, the report reads.

The report doesn’t clarify the significance of Apple’s single-lens orders for the iPhone 7 but does say that Primax is expected to land more orders for dual-lens camera modules in the second half of the year, due to the iPhone 7 Plus launch.

You may recall that one of the rumoured key selling features of the upcoming 5.5-inch iPhone model will be its dual-lens camera. Apple’s acquisition of LinX Imaging will likely bring significant improvements in camera quality in future iOS devices.

Earlier reports mentioned LG Innotek as the sole supplier of the dual-lens component for Apple, but using multiple suppliers is very much in line with the iPhone maker’s policy and is not related to replacing LG Innotek but likely to improving production output.
