Image Leak Hints at Bigger Apple Watch 2 Battery

The 42 mm models of the next-generation Apple Watch will allegedly sport a bigger battery, according to an image posted on Chinese microblogging site Weibo and spotted by MacRumors.

Apple watch 2 battery weibo

The 42 mm Apple Watch model is powered by a 246 mAh battery. The image posted on Weibo, allegedly showing a 334 mAh battery for the 42 mm Apple Watch 2, suggests Apple plans a bet on longer battery life as a key selling point. If you are using an Apple Watch, you know that it’s better to charge it overnight, because it may let you down when you need it most.

If the image is legit, this means the Apple Watch 2 will have a close to 40% bigger battery, which obviously impacts battery life. Apple says its goal with the currently available model was to reach 18 hours after an overnight charge, but, as you may have experienced, that can vary by usage and by user.

The source didn’t disclose any information about the battery of the smaller, 38 mm Apple Watch model, which is currently equipped with a 205 mAh battery.

As with every rumour, take this information with a grain of salt, but if the reports are true, we will likely see Apple unveil the next-generation Watch early in September.

Is anyone still using their Apple Watch since it was launched?

I use it every day. There hasn’t been a day without my Apple Watch. Now even more convenient with Apple Pay.

Every day, every night. Charge it for 30 mins in the AM while I shower/get ready and for about an hour in the PM before I go to sleep.

Yup. More for notifications though and the quick iMessage reply. Barely use any apps.

Yes. I feel naked without it. Once they launched more colour choices for bands, I found the perfect one that fits with my wardrobe and I wear it gladly every day. Wouldn’t want to be without it.
