British online retailer of repair parts Byte has today published a video of the Apple Watch 2 that provides a quick look at the internal housing and spacer ring, and measurements of the second-generation wearable’s screen thickness and battery. The new data confirms the presence of a bigger battery, which means the Apple Watch 2 will have more juice than the first, probably because of the GPS chip Apple is rumoured to have added to the device.
In the video inserted below, the guys at Byte confirmed that the Apple Watch 2’s LCD unit measures 2.86 mm at its thickest point and 2.13 mm at its thinnest. This compares to the first-generation Apple Watch display which measured 3.57 mm and 2.99 mm, respectively.
Byte also provides valuable information such as the Apple Watch 2 battery measurements compared to the first-generation model’s battery. The Apple Watch 2 battery is 5.11 mm × 27.5 mm × 8.71 mm (T × L × W), confirming earlier rumours of a larger battery.
The guy providing the measurements also concluded that the 42 mm Apple Watch 2 will be slightly taller and longer than the first-generation model, but the difference is negligible.
Byte also showed off another component of the Apple wearable, which appears to confirm that the tech giant is working on improving the water resistance of the Watch.
Another video shared today shows the LCD unit disassembled. As Byte notes in the video, this is a technology they have never seen before, it’s extremely difficult to take the LCD unit apart. The actual display thickness is 0.40 mm as showed in the Byte video.
Apple is expected to unveil the next-generation Watch tomorrow, alongside the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus.
