Unlocked iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus Canadian Pricing Starts at $899
What did you think of the iPhone 7 special event? Here are the Canadian prices for unlocked iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, which will be part of the first wave of launch countries:
iPhone 7
- 32GB – $899
- 128GB – $1029
- 256GB – $1159
iPhone 7 Plus
- 32GB – $1049 (+$20 vs iPhone 6s Plus launch)
- 128GB – $1179 (+$20 vs iPhone 6s Plus launch)
- 256GB – $1309 (+$20 vs iPhone 6s Plus launch)

Prices are about the same as last year, but iPhone 7 Plus prices are up $20. We do get more capacity though. The low Canadian dollar is still not helping Apple owners.
For those wondering, Canadian carrier pricing for iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus on contract last year, were the roughly the following (so expect iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus to be around the same):
iPhone 6s
- 16GB – $398.99
- 64GB – $528.99
- 128GB – $658.99
iPhone 6s Plus
- 16GB – $528.99
- 64GB – $658.99
- 128GB – $788.99
Do note, Jet Black is ONLY available in 128GB and 256GB, so you’ll have to pony up a bit more.

I’m mad. I would totally go for the monthly plan, but no, Canada’s got zip – again. Uk and China?? No installments for Canada? WTF, Apple?
Its not apple, its the Big 3. I called Apple Halifax and the restrictions on upgrading phones is pretty strict here. Its how the Big 3 get money. Each year a new iPhone is released the base package increases $10. Used to be $60 minimum and now its $70.
Lovely. 🙁
Yes, i think this is what it is. You can only do the upgrade plan in the US in conjunction with a carrier even though the plan is billed directly to the consumer by Apple and their finance partner/bank. Apple should just do an upgrade plan independent of carrier.
My impression is that Apple’s Upgrade Plan is strictly through Apple and the biggest benefit being that it includes AppleCare+. The carriers have their own upgrade plans. I can’t see any reason why Apple can’t release it here.
It is strictly through Apple but you still have to have a plan with a US Carrier to get access the plan. At least that’s what it was last year.
yep no way the big 3 would let Apple bring this to Canada
How exactly would the Big 3 be able to stop Apple from doing this? There are restrictions on “upgrading” because then you’re getting a subsidy from the carrier and the carrier is calling the shots on what plan you need to get.
When you buy outright from Apple, you can get any plan you like from any carrier you like. This would be no different. In essence, it’s just another form of in-house financing from Apple.
Exactly! That’s the moment that got me really upset, why freakin China and not us?!
Also this is Apple’s program we’re talking about so it should have nothing to do with carriers anyway!
Exactly
the Big 3 don’t want to give Apple a Cut just like the Big 5 bank here doesn’t want give $0.15 for Apple Pay for each transaction
Eventually the banks gave in customer demand
Apple will win this fight against the Big 3
eventually Apple will expand Upgrade Program without the carrier
I’m sick and tired that Canada get Short stick get the boot it’s not APPLE Fault it’s the regulators that Control this country they are Anti- Americans
It’s 0.15% of each transaction’s value, actually, not $0.15 per transaction. So a $100 purchase would mean $0.15 for Apple.
You can thank CRTC for helping the big 3 instead of consumers.
Have you worked out the math on this – with the apple upgrade plan they are charging you half the value of the phone during the first year. And then you trade it in for a new device.
Are you saying that a 6s plus with an apple plan has fallen more than 50% year over year?
#CanadaMatters should be trending asap!
So no headphones of any sort included in the box, just adapter?
I’d hate to think there will be dye issues with the jet black or is that the same as glossy black?
Yes, there are headphones.
Adapter and headphone included with all iPhone 7’s
Willing to bet adapter won’t be in 2017’s new iPhone though, after giving the market a year to come out with other Lightning earphones and adapters (different colours, etc).
Try reading the review post first next time.
Dude, you’re trolling.
Upgrade Prices?
The Canadian prices reflect a 72 cent dollar…we are up at 77 cents now…starting price should have been $849.
I think they add padding in for future fluctuations. Our dollar was around the same place last year as well I think.
Nope, not true. We were worse last year at this time in terms of currency. Apple has always lagged behind in their exchange rate. Their app prices are priced the same way as their other products.
If you listen to conference calls, Apple’s pricing reflects any changes in currency fluctuations, so yes, they do “pad” their pricing.
The fluctuations (stronger dollar) should start happening at the beginning of next year. The CDN dollar is expected to rise over the next year, not fall. As such, I disagree their pricing reflects currency fluctuations.
They could’ve considering the CAD from earlier this year, when it was less than $0.70 USD… they could’ve jacked up the entry level price mid-cycle to $949 or even $999 CAD, but thankfully the CAD recovered a bit.
With the US Federal Reserve raising interest rates over the next year, the US$ will go up against the Canadian$, which will go down.
Ah, my bad. We do luck out with music pricing though. I think we probably have the cheapest Apple Music subscription of any country.
That’s not how pricing works.
I bought my 6s in late Jan, thinking that the weak CAD would fall further and didn’t want to risk Apple jacking up the price mid-cycle like they did the year before.
Jet Black iPhone 7 Plus all the way! Can’t wait to pre-order it. Hoping to get more info about pre-ordering in Canada from here. You guys are the best.
I wonder what the scratch resistance is on the jet black.
I am pretty sure it’s quite scratch resistant. Let’s wait for more details from reviewers.
Regardless I always keep it cased. That gloss looks so good!
Then what’s the point? There is verbiage on the apple website which warns users that the jet black will be susceptible to micro abrasions.
I know. I just read the fine print. I guess I will stick to the matte black version.
I am gonna risk it and grab the jet black. Gonna take care of it like a baby, lol.
I’m sooooo torn. I have a 6 Plus, but I really wanted to go to a smaller size. But that camera…. it’s difficult to choose, and the difference in price is really not that much. 🙁
Oh yeah. I am sure you’ll love the plus version. Easy to task on it and the screen is just amazing.
You’re going to love the 7 / 7 Plus. Huge upgrade from the 6 Plus.
I’m in the same boat got the 6 plus i want to go back in size but i want the new dual camera also going back to a lower resolution 720p screen from the 1080 of the plus is really noticeable when i played with my old 5s after having the 6 plus i could see jaggy’s and pixels
I dunno man, that jet black looks to be a finger print magnet. I think that matte black looks pretty slick to me. But all of this is moot if you have a case on it.
You going unlocked or carrier upgrade? We’ll be sure to keep you all updated. Thanks for reading!
Always unlocked and fancy free. 🙂
Unlocking. Good for frequent travellers ????
What would be the trade-in value for the 6S/Plus via Apple? I know it’s not updated yet.
I noticed the value dropped on Apple’s website. When I traded in my 6 for 6S in March, it was around $400, it dropped to around $300 now.
Ok stop ripping Canadians off with stupid pricing. I’m done with iPhone. Those prices are ridiculous. Also, 32gb isn’t available just for some stupid color? Pffft…..They don’t even reflect exchange rate. Canada should ban Apple from this precious land.
They are not far off the current US$/C$ exchange rate.
Let’s use the nominal consumer exchange rate of $1.30 today.
In the US: the 7S 32GB is $769 or $1000 CDN
In Canada the 7S 32 GB is 1049 CDN
In the US: the 7S 128GB is $869 US or 1129 CDN
In Canada the 7S 128GB is $1179 CDN
So, yes. As of today the pricing is quite comparable. Next year, it will likely be a different story.
Its our crappy canadian dollar. We’re getting more this year compared to last year’s 6S. I paid $1029 for my 64GB 6S and this year we’re getting 128GB for the same price along with the new features. But I agree its not cheap.
Well, it’s a free market. You are free to buy and not buy what you like. It’s great to have choices.
This is all we need, idiots trying to “save Canada” through mindless rambling.
Bye bye – and hope that “other” phone doesn’t explode in your pants!
This kind of mindless US slave traitor needs to be kicked out of Canada. Explode? You mean GNote7? Don’t you stupid idiot know that iPhone uses Samsung’s battery? So ignorant omg get out of Canada.
How do i charge the phone if i’m listening to music or on a long phone call?
You can’t.
Use the speakers or buy bluetooth headphones/AirPods
You can’t. wait for next year’s wireless charging 🙂
Some Chinese aftermarket company will ship out a dual connector soon enough – just keep tabs on this site and Amazon.
Use the speakers. Use bluetooth headphones. Charge your phone before calling.
Don’t make phone calls.
My wallets not ready for this… Lol, but who cares haha
Oh ya – bought me a house this summer with 4 sonos speakers – a new car with CarPlay enabled is round the corner – rocking my iPad Pro from spring – and now I’m going to buy the 128 GB plus version either in black or jet black.
And this is not the end of it either; likely the new rMBP are coming out within the next couple of months. So that’s another ding waiting to happen.
Lol I need to win the LOTTO…. You got a sick setup #jelly
That’s my boy, Kirk 😀
LMAO Gary… You know it. ;P
Cost of Apple Care + with these new phones?
$169+tx
Thank you! Need to add that to the budget haha
I’m tempted to go for the Jet Black 128GB iPhone 7, especially since it releases on my birthday. I’ll wait and see how much the upgrade would cost me. Probably won’t happen. 🙁
Is the 128GB really necessary? Are you going to be forking over the big bucks for expensive lightning headphones that don’t have very good audio? Will it hold the resale value better than the matte black 32GB version?
I imagine many people who must upgrade this year will likely go for the 32 GB model and sell it next year. Apple dropped the ball by not providing wireless charging.
With that camera and those features – oh yeah, even for a pseudo amateur photographer to store raw photos for editing – you need onboard storage.
That, and Mario is likely going to be 32gb itself. Lol
lol. it seems everyone who owns an iphone these days considers themselves an amateur photographer. however, only a pro would want to store raw photos. most people just shoot and upload to social media, and use the social media app to edit. however, if you want to shoot in 4K video, I can see 128 GB being necessary.
Lol, I know what you mean. My wife does this all the time.
I currently have a 128GB iPhone 6 with only 10GB of available space, so for me, yes, the 128GB is necessary. It’s not just that I want the jet black, I’d be fine with the matte black but I do prefer the jet black from the photos. I’ll probably wait and see what people find out in scratch tests before I make a decision though, if I do decide to buy that is.
Personally I don’t care about wireless charging. I’d much rather have slightly more battery life (with the battery able to be slightly bigger than if they had to include the hardware for wireless charging). Wireless charging isn’t any more freeing than charging with a cable as the charger still has to be plugged in and is only in one location. I think it might sell well, but for me I don’t care about it.
Oh, and no I won’t be getting the headphones. I’ll be using the supplied adapter with my current headphones.
Happy early birthday; what a wonderful gift you’ll be getting!
Anyone else going to upgrade through a carrier this year? the last two years I’ve bought the phone out right, but I think I might cave and upgrade through Rogers….as long as I can do it at the Apple store on the 16th.
I’ve bought my last two phones outright. To get the upgrade price Rogers has been trying to get me off my grandfathered 6GB plan for years and onto one of their shared everything crap. Not gonna do it Rogers! You can’t make me!
Exactly this. I’ll take the upfront hit over losing my grandfathered 6 GB plan.
I’m in the same situation. Rogers did up the cost of my plan though and moved me to another one after they killed my grandfathered plan. Come next year, if Wind has LTE I might switch or consider trying my luck with the Koodo $48 Manitoba plan
I’ve been buying upfront every year from Apple since the iphone 4. My carrier won’t get my grandfathered 6GB plan.
Yes they can. You didn’t get one of those letters from Rogers where your grandfathered plan is obsolete?
I did get a lettering saying they’re jacking up my plan an extra 5 bucks a month. I’m still on my old 6gb plan though. They have never said anything about moving me off of it…. yet.
Letter**
I gave up my 6GB plan after 4 years last winter because I’m able to get a decent corporate discount through my work. I haven’t been on a contract since 2012, but I think it’s overall a cheaper option to upgrade rather than buy it outright
Around $100 cheaper to drive down to Buffalo and buy the iPhone 7.
Does that include duty/taxes after declaring the purchase on your way back? It’ll clearly be over the maximum C$800 personal exemption, so if you plan on not declaring it, you’d better hope you don’t get caught…
Of course not as no normal person would declare a phone. How exactly would someone get caught anyway? All you have to do is take the phone out of the box.
And then people grumble why we don’t get nice things in Canada. Sigh.
If we got nice things, there would be no need to go across the border to pay less for nearly everything. I think you’ll find a majority of people don’t declare small goods when coming back into the country.
Then that is a problem with our culture that promotes this sort of illegal activity – and thinks “it’s okay” to break the law.
Anyways, I don’t want to argue with you over what is and what isn’t acceptable – go and do your thing!
Our culture doesn’t promote this sort of thing. It’s rednecks and those who are full of themselves and think they can outsmart the authorities and everyone else. CBSA knows the demand will be high for the iPhone and will be very diligent in their questioning at least until after Xmas.
This type of thinking is not isolated to “rednecks”. It’s an entitled culture we’re in – and somehow the millennial thinking has degenerated into “it’s my right” to do and own what I want at a price I want to pay – if not I’ll get it by hook or by crook.
rrright. those millennials. a hashtag on twitter was trending over the weekend on how to confuse them. lol
If you go down to the US for 48 hrs I believe they give you an $800 exemption for goods brought back into Canada.
Exactly and I’d rather pay 13% than deal with a potential Trump presidency.
I guess I’m not normal. I’ve always felt that honesty is the best policy.
That’s boring.
How do you reckon? Or are you not planning on declaring when you return to Canada?
That means you’re either smuggling it in, or you pay taxes twice.
I’ll be getting the Jet Black too but be wary of its finish if not using a case. Here’s what apple is saying:
“The high-gloss finish of the jet black iPhone 7 is achieved through a
precision nine-step anodisation and polishing process. Its surface is
equally as hard as other anodised Apple products; however, its high
shine may show fine micro-abrasions with use. If you are concerned about
this, we suggest you use one of the many cases available to protect
your iPhone.”
Even if you don’t take your phone out of your case much, you might scuff it when you insert it, depending on the case. There’s also that downtime between ordering the case you want and installing your phone in it. My thinking is that come next year, there will many Jet Black iPhones with “fine micro-abrasions” for sale.
Well, I told myself I wouldn’t upgrade. Apple got me again. Looks like it’s Mr Noodles is on the menu for the next 4 months.
Lol!
So pre-ordred is this Friday… but will we be able to and reserve online and pick in store like previous years ?
Also, is it me, but they said pre-order Friday and start shipping on the 16 ? Will it be deliver on the 16 or ship on the 16?
Usually means you’ll get yours in hand by 16th. But those ship times slip dramatically – especially if you’ll be after either of the blacks.
I’m so mad. I want the Plus camera(s) but I can’t deal with the large phone …. first world problems.
I have the same issue. 🙁 I want a smaller screen with a higher resolution. But I’m so tired of the large plus phone I already have. And the battery life is going to be worse too. 🙁
Maybe the 7S will solve that next year.
My thoughts exactly.
I just pulled up my Apple receipt and saw that I bought a 128GB iPhone 6 Plus 2 years ago directly from Apple (unlocked) for C$$1079. Now the price has gone up $100 to $1179 for the same storage capacity. F/X rate at work I guess. Sigh.
I’m skipping this year. Maybe time for a switch. Apple is truly a TV show company now to sell their pathetic over-priced products. Very disappointed.
I own $50,000 worth of APPL stock. So, I’m officially an owner of Apple!
You guys need to feed me. Buy the Jet Black iPhones this year please…plus the new earpods. Only losers use Android phones 🙂
What about reserve and pick up at the Apple Stores for a carrier subsidized phone like they did for the 6S? It kills me that they aren’t upfront about this stuff. Keeping new hardware a “secret” I understand but keeping the purchasing options quiet just doesn’t make sense to me at all…
I’m expecting this option will re-appear within the Apple Store iOS app again this year. Let’s wait and see.
