iPhone 7 and 7 Plus Allegedly Emit ‘Hissing’ Sounds Under Heavy Load: Report

According to a new report from 9to5Mac, some owners of Apple’s latest flagship smartphones have found that the devices can emit a ‘hissing’ sound when they are under heavy load.

The sound has drawn comparisons to how a computer’s CPU can begin to screech when pushed to its limits. It has yet to be determined whether the sound emitted by the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus is just a defect with some models, or simply a drawback of Apple’s new A10 fusion chip.

Stephen Hackett, a blogger and iPhone 7 Plus owner, was one of the first to tweet about the issue. Hackett contacted Apple Care where a representative told him that he could swap the device in-store (which is nearly impossible due to the lack of inventory). Hackett posted a video of his iPhone 7 Plus making the noise (which is quite loud):

The DetroitBORG on YouTube also posted a video, demonstrating the sound that can be heard under heavy loads. In the video’s description he does mention that the noise can only be heard if you put your ear against the phone, which contradicts most other reports that say the sound is quite loud. He also notes in the comments that he is not sure whether or not the sounds are the same as what people have been reporting.

I just got my 7 plus 256 replaced .. volume down was recessed into the phone (the fact that there was one in stock blew my mind).

Hope that:

A. This isn’t a major concern
B. It don’t apply to me! LOL
