Montreal-Based Developer Announces Update to Transit App, $2.4 Million in Funding

Montreal app developer Transit has announced an update to their app, which was formerly known as Transit App. The company has raised $2.4 million in funding, led by new investors Accel Partners and Accomplice, with participation from previous investors Real Ventures and BDC.

“The artist formerly known as Transit App is now just… Transit. It’s less clunky, and better reflects our goal: to make urban transportation as simple and smooth as possible. Not just the digital interface, but the physical experience too. That goes way beyond just being an app.”

Transit has released version 4.0 of its app, which since 2012 has folded a wide variety of transit options into a simple “Point A to Point B” interface, including for ride-sharing car services, bike stations, and public transit such as busses and subways.

The company’s app, which is available in more than 125 cities in 9 countries, was built with less than $1 million in seed funding.

The update to the app introduces a lot of new features including one called “GO”. GO is intended to be your new personal transit companion. Using voice and push notifications, GO manages each aspect of your trip so you don’t have to think about.

The app will now also give you live updates as you proceed through your trip. For example, if you are walking to slow you will get a notification from GO telling you to stay on pace to reach your destination on time.

“GO is the most advanced transit navigator out there. Our real-time trip planner makes it easier than ever to pick the fastest route. But these features are just the tip of our iceberg. (We’re Canadian. Our icebergs are large.)”

Transit is available as a free download from the App Store. The app requires any device running iOS 8.0 or later.
