Google App for iOS Gains Incognito Mode with Touch ID and More

Google’s search app for iOS has been updated today to bring ‘incognito mode’, which leaves your queries and browsing history unsaved on your device.

You can enable incognito mode within the Google app’s settings and once you do, the app turns into dark mode, similar to how it looks in the web browser Chrome. There are options to toggle on Touch ID, to protect your session when you return to the app after leaving an existing session.

If you have an iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus or newer, you can also toggle incognito mode by using 3D Touch from the Google app’s icon.

Also new is YouTube videos playable right in search, as there is no longer a need to launch a browser of the YouTube app. Google says the app has also added increased stability for iOS 10 users, while performance improvements have reduced crashes by 50%.

In our tests, even with incognito mode enabled for Touch ID, the latter would not pop up when we returned to our existing sessions. Anyone else?

If you don’t see the option to enable incognito mode after updating, try force quitting the app (double tap Home and swipe the app up and away) and checking settings again.

I’m seriously contemplating moving Chrome into a folder and putting the Google iOS app on my dock in lieu of Chrome, as it appears to be evolving into a Chrome plus a whole lot more.
