Last year, Canadian singer-songwriter Neil Young pulled his albums off streaming services, citing poor sound quality as the reason for taking his music offline.
He said on Facebook at the time “It’s about sound quality. I don’t need my music to be devalued by the worst quality in the history of broadcasting or any other form of distribution. I don’t feel right allowing this to be sold to my fans. It’s bad for my music.”
In a sudden reversal of events, Young’s music is now back on streaming services such as Apple Music and Spotify, reports Spin. When he pulled his music last year, it was still available on Jay Z’s TIDAL, which offers higher quality streaming to subscribers.
A representative for Spotify told Pitchfork, “We are happy to have Neil Young’s entire catalogue back on Spotify!”
If you’re a Neil Young fan and Apple Music subscriber, this is good news for you. Young’s upcoming album, Peace Trail, is available for pre-order in iTunes for $10.99 and releases on December 9, 2016.
