Live Video Coming Soon to Instagram, Confirms CEO

Q 100

In an interview with The Financial Times, Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom has revealed that the Facebook-owned company is bringing live videos to the photo-sharing app (via Engadget). The feature was seen in beta for the first time last month in Russia, where some users spotted an icon marked “Live” next to a row of Instagram Stories.

Systrom said in the interview: “Live is really exciting for us. I think it can enhance what we’re doing. If I’m trying to strengthen relationships with someone I love, them streaming video to me live would be an amazing way to be closer to them.”

Screenshots of the Live video feature on Instagram were shared by Russian publication T Journal, revealing the feature will work similar to Facebook Live. If you want to broadcast anything on Instagram, all you need to do is open the camera and click “Go Insta!”

Systrom didn’t share exactly when the feature will become available, but it shouldn’t be long before the live video sharing feature becomes available to general public on one of the world’s most popular photo-sharing platforms.
