iPhone Owners Tend to Be Less Honest vs Android Users: Study

If you are an iPhone owner, you tend to be a dishonest person – or at least more superficial than Android users, according to a new study from the University of Lincoln and the University of Lancaster in the UK. But iPhone owners are more emotional, they say (via TNW).

The researchers reached that conclusion after interviewing 530 people in 2015 and 2016, and asking about their feelings and, of course, phones.

As it turns out, some of the expectations of the researchers concerning iPhone users, such as the age groups and their relationships with their handsets, were confirmed by the study. But one thing they didn’t expect and which surprised them was that iPhone users saw themselves as less honest.

In comparison to Android users, we found that iPhone owners are more likely to be female, younger, and increasingly concerned about their smartphone being viewed as a status object. Key differences in personality were also observed with iPhone users displaying lower levels of Honesty–Humility and higher levels of emotionality.

By contrast, an Android user profile looks like this: more honest, older and agreeable, less likely to break the rules for personal gain; and not keen on wealth, status and all the New-Yorkish trappings of life, CNET summarizes.

The researchers have built a statistical model predicting what phone people own.

“We were able to build a statistical model that, after asking people a few questions about themselves, could [accurately] predict what type of phone they had in their pocket about 70 percent of the time,” researcher David Ellis said.

Will your friends read this? You’d better hide your iPhone if it doesn’t display the Apple logo or you have some explanations to make –or not. Of course, take this study with a grain of salt.
