Amazon Canada Marketplace Sellers Hit Record $1 Billion in Sales in 2016

Amazon has revealed details of its Marketplace sellers program in 2016, which allows third party vendors to have their goods “fulfilled by Amazon” and reach the latter’s millions of customers.

The retailer shared details with iPhone in Canada, noting Marketplace sellers in Canada reached a record $1 billion in sales in 2016, with $350 million generated in November and December alone.

Cyber Monday saw the biggest sales day of the year, with Marketplace sellers seeing a 54 per cent jump in sales compared to last year, while Amazon.ca’s Fulfilled by Amazon (FBA) sales jumped by 100 per cent on Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

“2016 was a record-breaking year in sales worldwide for sellers on Amazon. The Amazon Marketplace empowers brand owners and retailers of all sizes, many of them small businesses, to reach customers around the world,” said Peter Faricy, VP for Amazon Marketplace.

Worldwide in 2016, FBA saw over two billion items delivered, with Marketplace sellers increasing by 70 per cent. Amazon claims “more than 600,000 new jobs” were created outside of the company, but did not go into details on the calculation.

Last month, Amazon launched Prime Video in Canada and worldwide, offering its complementary streaming video service for Prime members.
