YouTube for iOS Updated with Lock Screen Playback Control Support When Casting Videos

Google has updated the YouTube app for iOS with easier access to playback controls, particularly when casting videos to other devices.

While casting, YouTube users can now access controls from the iOS lock screen, as well as their Apple Watch. Previously, users were able to control iOS playback from an Apple Watch, but not for videos that were being cast elsewhere.

The updated app offers playback and volume controls from the lock screen in general, as well as in Control Center. This feature in the update is likely targeted towards YouTube Red, Google’s subscription service which lets people play ad-free videos in the background.

YouTube for iOS is available as a free download from the App Store. The app requires any device running iOS 8.0 or later.
