Strava for Apple Watch Series 2 in Beta, Launch in “Few More Weeks”
Fitness app Strava launched a standalone app yesterday for Android Wear 2.0 smartwatches (which just launched this week!), leaving many Apple Watch Series 2 users wondering when they would get support. Throw in an accidentally leaked Strava Apple Watch Series 2 landing page, and that’s one way to get users up in arms.
Now, Elle Anderson, Strava Support Manager of Community and Projects, has announced to users the upcoming release with GPS support for Apple Watch Series 2 is coming soon, urging readers to wait “just a few more weeks.”
We are just as excited as you are to release support for the Apple Watch 2.0 GPS. We also cannot wait. But we also want to release something great, and that is going to require just a few more weeks. Thanks everyone for your patience.
She went on to add “Much hard work has been put in these last few months. We are already testing the beta around the office.”
A couple beta testers of the upcoming Strava update for Apple Watch Series 2 have noted “It works – pretty well, actually. GPS track looks accurate, at least no worse than what my Forerunner 235 records.”
One workaround Apple Watch Series 2 users have been doing, is recording runs with RunKeeper, then using the service tapiriik to sync to Strava.
I use Strava to keep track of my runs (when I can peel myself off the couch) and rides. It’s been far too long waiting for GPS support for the Series 2. It’d be nice to be able to track swims as well. We’ll find out soon enough.
Back in November, Strava announced on their support forums Apple Watch Series 2 support would be coming in “early 2017.”
