Apple’s ‘iPhone 8’ Will Have 5.8-Inch OLED Display: Nikkei
According to a new report from Nikkei Asian Review, Apple will launch three new iPhone models this fall. Two of the models will have LCD displays with the same screen sizes as the current iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. The third model will reportedly have a 5.8-inch OLED display.
This is not the first time that we have heard this rumour, however, the site previously reported that the OLED ‘iPhone 8’ will feature a 5-inch display. It seems as though the rumour mill is widely agreeing upon the 5.8-inch display size.
KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said the next-generation iPhone will indeed have a 5.8-inch display. Kuo asserts that the primary area will actually be 5.15 inches, while the rest of the space will be reserved for a row of virtual buttons.
Various rumours also said the device’s physical dimensions will likely be similar to the 4.7-inch iPhone 7. In order to achieve this, Apple will likely remove the physical home button and reduce the size of the bezels.
Given the various rumours about the size of the OLED panel, it is still unclear whether Apple will classify the “iPhone 8” as 5.1 inches, 5.2 inches, or 5.8 inches.

So theyll keep on fractionning their product line while offering us a 1400CAD$ iPhone that not even 1% of the population will be able to afford in Canada? I’m getting curious knowing what new technology will be offered in the other versions…

I don’t get why every new phone or product recently, and not just Apple, is so expensive. Even the new Surface pro is what 3k for top model and not even quad core, and whats with the MacBook, not even the pro, so expensive. its like you have no choice but to go contract
Subsidies are the biggest problems. But as we’re seeing here in Canada they are disappearing. It’s not even a subsidy anymore – it’s a no interest finance essentially since you pay a portion upfront and the rest on a ‘tab’. If we had to all buy outright prices would eventually come down like TVs. The trade off would be longer cycles of each iteration I would guess.
Isn’t that Apple that kind of created major subsidy ? I remember reading something that pre-iPhone era subsidy weren’t really popular and that with the iPhone Steve Jobs had been able to convice major telecom to offer high-end phones on subsidy for a higher-priced contract… It’s interesting to see that it’s kind of falling appart as the years go by…
Subsidies have been around on phones for much longer than iPhone. The difference before was carriers picked and chose what phones they would offer. E.g. If I wanted the SonyEricsson P500 I had to buy it at full price as no carrier was offering it. But if I wanted the Nokia 3100 it would be fully subsidized as all the carriers were offering it.
From apple it’s only three months.
Yeah but my point is there are no longer any subsidies and the carrier payment plans masked as subsidies are the reason why hardware prices remain high.
