Alleged ‘iPhone 8’ Chassis Renderings Show Rear Touch ID [PICS]

In contrast to previously predicted embedded Touch ID sensor in the display, new ‘iPhone 8’ chassis renderings based on recently leaked schematics appear to visualize the relocated Touch ID fingerprint sensor to the rear side, as commonly found these days on Android phones. The alleged renderings, initially shared on Weibo (via 9to5Mac), also feature the vertical dual camera cutout as well as the previously questioned volume rocker.

The leaked casing also features the vertical dual camera cutout above a flash cutout that we’ve seen on other claimed leaks and schematics. The dual camera system is currently exclusive to the iPhone 7 Plus and features a horizontal layout. The flagship iPhone this year is expected to feature a new bezel-less display design that will require Apple’s Touch ID fingerprint sensor to relocate.

While Apple has said to be working on integrating the fingerprint sensor into the new iPhone’s display, low yield rates with producing that model may be to blame for the rear-mounted approach.

Take a look at the alleged ‘iPhone 8’ chassis renderings and share your thoughts in the comments section:

If Steve Jobs was still around, we would never see this on the true iphone anniversary..it’s too bad it looks like Apple has somewhat lost their way since his death.

Why? How do you know that? Do you know Steve Jobs personally? Why are you so quick to reject it without even trying it first? How do you base your judgement by assumption? If Steve Jobs was still around, he would be laughing at your prejudice comment.

I still can’t believe they would do this. I guess I’ll keep waiting at least one more year before I renew my 6 plus.

I have a feeling this isn’t Touch ID but wireless charging or smart connector….

Cutouts for the sim seem inconsistent between images. Touch ID is important so I’m cool with it on the back. Vertical camera is an abomination.

The verticle camera makes perfect sense as photos, for the most part, should be taken in landscape mode.

Very minor but the only thing that would be cumbersome with having touchID in the back is for people like me who have the phone mounted in the car for hands free use.

And also less then ideal for using a case.

I don’t believe it. Surely touch ID should be attached via dongle. The courageous way.

I’m no way interested in touch id on the back. However, If I were on the design team and it was mandated that touch id was on the back, I would put the touch ID inside the Apple logo. That means the Apple logo would have to be moved down a little bit, but it’s still better than this rendering.

If I was apple and I had to put the Touch ID on the back of the iPhone I would replace the Apple logo with it but keep the shape of the Touch ID to be alike the logo.

Yes…. I could live with that. Then if you put a case on it with the Apple logo cutout… it would be fairly easy to find it with your index finger.

I’m 100% sure if this was the real deal, that hole is most likely for the wireless induction modular. Considering the chassis is metal here, that conclusion is my best guess.

I also have to say there is no new innovative design here since it looks so much like the 5/5S.

You’re 100% sure that it’s most likely. Okay.

Touch ID will be integrated into the screen (the whole screen). The back opening is for wireless charging. Idiots.
