Scotiabank for iPhone Now Lets You Add Loyalty Cards to ‘My Mobile Wallet’

Scotiabank has updated their iOS app to now let customers add loyalty cards to the My Mobile Wallet feature within the app.

According to the image below, users will see their loyalty cards within the Scotiabank app, which will let customers store them to use at retail locations, to earn points. Customers can also check and redeem points on their iPhone.

Setting this up is complex. After installing this update, users need to enable the Loyalty option and agree to terms and conditions. But it doesn’t stop there, as you’re required to enter your email as well to proceed.

Next, a list of 18 supported cards show up:

  • Avis Preferred
  • DSW Rewards
  • Enterprise Plus
  • Esso Extra
  • Fairmont President’s Club
  • Heathrow Rewards
  • Hertz Gold Plus Rewards
  • Hudson’s Bay Rewards
  • Le Club Accorhotels
  • More Rewards
  • My Petro-Canada
  • Outdoor Rewards
  • PC Plus Points
  • Plum Rewards
  • Scene
  • Shoppers Optimum Program
  • The Ritz-Carlton
  • VIPorter
Once you select a card provider, you can then position your card in the frame for it to recognize the numbers, or you can enter in numbers manually. Next, there is an option to complete your registration with your card provider by entering in your login and password (to see your balance and redeem points).
The option to access the wallet is cumbersome, as first you need to launch Scotiabank on your iPhone, which takes time due to Touch ID, then tap the sidebar to load the loyalty cards, which only then display the card numbers and not barcodes.

Scotiabank says users can “easily store and use your cards on the go, without the bulk of carrying all your loyalty cards in your wallet.” But realistically, setting up your loyalty cards with Apple’s Wallet app is much better (if supported), since you can quickly access them from the lock screen by double tapping the Home button.

Back in March, Scotiabank surprisingly launched support for Apple’s iMessage extension to easily send Interac e-Transfers. But then we get some clunky feature like this Loyalty card wallet, which seems like an afterthought to the app.
