Shaw to Provide Free Wi-Fi In Winnipeg for the Canada Summer Games

The Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg are just around the corner, and in celebration Shaw has announced that it will be providing free access to its Go WiFi service at over 6,000 locations throughout the city.

According to a press release, Shaw, who claims it offers Canada’s largest Wi-Fi network, will be providing the service from Friday, July 21 to Monday, August 21, covering the Games and a bit of time before and after the event.

“As a proud sponsor and the official telecom provider of the Canada Games, we’re excited to provide free access to the Shaw Go WiFi network in Winnipeg, including all 21 participating sporting venues, while giving residents and visitors the opportunity to stay connected throughout the entire competition,” said Greg Pultz, the vice president of operations at Shaw Communications.

For the Snapchat fans out there, Shaw will be releasing an exclusive celebratory Canada Summer Games filter. According to the company, every time the filter is used, Shaw will make a donation to KidSport Manitoba, a children’s charity designed to assist children of financially-strained families participate in sports.

While Shaw did not disclose the specific donation amount per filter use,  the company did pledge to donating up $25,000 total.

To access the free Wi-Fi service, which begins today, users should select the “Shaw Go” network from their list of available Wi-Fi connections on their smartphones or other devices. In order to find the hotspot closest to you, a full list of every location is available on Shaw’s website or through an official Shaw Go WiFi Finder app.

“We’ve promised to deliver an exceptional athlete and visitor experience at the 2017 Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg, and Shaw’s announcement today is one more step towards delivering on that promise,” said Jeff Hnatiuk, the president & CEO of the 2017 Canada Summer Games Host Society.

“Working with Shaw to provide access to the Shaw Go WiFi network underscores our commitment to giving our athletes, spectators and all Winnipeggers the best Canada Summer Games experience possible,” he concluded.
