The OPP has released some statistics that shows further evidence that distracted driving, caused by people who talk or text using their mobile devices, is causing more collisions than impaired driving and speeding.
Since the beginning of 2017, the OPP said there have been 6,360 collisions due to distracted driving. This is compared to 4,700 collisions that were due to speeding and 1,158 crashes due to impaired driving.
This year alone driver distraction has been responsible for a total of 47 deaths, which is an increase over 39 deaths at the same time last year.
OPP Commissioner Vince Hawkes says that distracted drivers are only causing a toll on the safety of other drivers around them. The Ontario Provincial Police will be conducting a distracted driving campaign over the Labour Day weekend, and you can be sure they will be patrolling the roads in full force.

I’ve been using iOS 11 since the beta went public and I must say that the Do Not Disturb while driving is a much overdue feature.
I never realized how much I would glance over at my phone when a notification popped up; it’s scary. All be it I always used Siri for text messages, but with the screen black I feel much better.
The only caveat is the user must enable the feature. I encourage everyone to do so.
That’s great, but I can’t wait to get CarPlay.
