What Will Apple’s New iPhone Be Called? Vote Here [POLL]
We’re days away from Apple’s special event, where we’ll learn the final details of the company’s next flagship iPhone. One big question remains though—what will Apple call ‘iPhone 8’?

iPhone 8 sounds like a logical choice, but what about the other iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus updates? Could we see Apple deviate from the traditional “S” naming scheme for models still using the same iPhone 6/6 Plus design, and call them iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus? Then call the newest and most expensive model the iPhone 8 Pro or iPhone Edition? Or even iPhone X? Or do you think Apple will finally drop the number naming scheme altogether?
Back in March, Japanese Apple site Mac Otakara heard from sources the next OLED iPhone could be called the ‘iPhone Edition’, which would be borrowing a naming scheme from the outlandishly priced Apple Watch Edition, which was priced as high as $22,000 CAD.
I’ll take a stab first–I’m guessing Apple will call the new model iPhone 8 Pro or iPhone Pro.
Take our poll below and share your thoughts on what the next flagship OLED iPhone will be called:
Regardless of what Apple calls the next flagship iPhone, get your bags of money folks. It’s expected to cost at least $1000 USD and be in short supply at launch (no surprise here).

I’ve been saying iPhone X for over a year … its in line with the 10th anniversary and similar to OSX … makes sense to me.
OS X doesn’t exist anymore. It’s now MacOS. The X moniker seems very unlikely.
Doesn’t it sound weird to call something an “edition” without mentioning what kind of an edition it is? Like if I were asked if I wanted the Harry Potter edition, I’d say what edition? They would reply, “Oh my bad, I meant paperback edition”. Or maybe it’s special edition or an ebook edition or whatever. The point is that it sounds like there is a word missing. An important word. For example, Apple Watch Edition could mean either gold or ceramic. Would it be so hard to call it “Gold Edition” and “Ceramic Edition”?
Anyway, I vote for “iPhone Essential Phone front with iPhone 4 back. Edition.”
The name “Essential” is already used by an Android company.
Yeah I know – and so does Apple apparently since the front face of the “iPhone Edition” leaks look similar to the “Essential” – including the bite out of the top of the screen.
I don’t think they look similar beyond an almost bezel free front. The notch on the essential is narrower but longer and the Apple one is more streamlined.
None of the above…
I’m calling it now… Apple Phone
iPhone Pro sounds about right. I don’t think they want to completely eliminate the home button for at least 2 more gens. The new solid state button is still so new, so why not make a new iPhone 8/8+ with similar to Pro features but cheaper. The Pro will be like comparing the iPad models, or MacBook models. You get what you pay for but don’t miss out on essentials to iOS.
The 3 major features I think iPhone Pro makes sense for the name will be the facial recognition, full screen OLED, which Apple will improve with software and Pro-motion, and lastly the new way to use what would be he home button with software custom to the function area. I have $100 on this being the reality.
Maybe a fourth would be a custom A.I. Chip only for the Pro, while the iPhone 8 will most likely get the A11, wireless charging, improved cameras and slight upgrade in design.
I’m calling it now… it will be the Apple Phone
Then what would they call the OS?
iOS.
But you eliminated the “i” and replaced it with Apple.
The masses aren’t too concerned with the iPhone’s OS… not like Android at least… the masses see the two major devices as iPhone’s and Android Phones. (of course us on these sites are more attuned to the details)
But now what would they call the iPad… the Apple Pad? No, that sounds bad. who knows…
I predict iPhone 7s, iPhone 7s Plus, and Apple Phone!
It’s not about what the masses want, it’s about how Apple wants to be perceived. They like continuity.
A post I did a few days ago:
Here is my radical thinking for next years lineup.
Current 4” iPhone SE discontinued.
iPhone SE — 4.7” variant
iPhone — rumoured 5.8” variant
iPhone Plus — rumoured 6.5” variant
With the rumoured 5.8 having almost the same form factor as the current 4.7 I don’t see why they would continue going forward with that line. I think dropping it to the “affordable for everyone” range makes more sense. The SE has been too successful, especially a broad, to discontinue the line completely; so a bump in size will be a nice edition.
A larger Plus size screen makes sense to compete with Samsung and once people start using the rumoured iPhone in a couple weeks, there will be a demand for a larger size especially since there are rumours already floating.
Wonder how well the 7S or whatever the lower model is called is going to sell. I dont see the tech types being eager to adopt a less equipped device, the latest greatest crowd will also want the top of the line model. Anyone with a a 7 now doesn’t really have a compelling reason to upgrade to the 7S, so who are they making it for?
I’ve said it, and I’ll say it again:
There will not be a 7S or 7S+.
Mamba out.
How does iPhone 8 sounds like a logical name ? It’s not the 8th year its the tenth, its not the 8th iPhone, etc…
The easiest way would be iPhone, iPhone Plus and iPhone Pro.
Because 8 comes after seven. Apple ended the logical numerical naming once they hit the 4S, and the 5 should’ve been 6, etc. The logic now is not what iteration it is, but rather what is their naming scheme now. This is actually the 11th iPhone, not the 10th, so all the rumours about it being called iPhone X wouldn’t make sense anyways.
But is the updated iPhone 7 really a big step forward from the 7 ? From what I’ve read, we won’t see major innovations coming other than for the Edition/X/Pro model. the 7s/8 rumors says we’ll have upgraded CPU, better cameras, but most of the things stays the same (Home button, bezels, size, etc.). So much rumors yet so little certainty…
I know the answer to this 🙂 #TelusRegionalManager
Don’t tease… but I’m right, right? Apple Phone!
Such a tease!
