Apple Developing Several Frame Styles for Smart Glasses
Apple is reportedly developing around four frame styles for its first pair of smart glasses.
Apple Watch Series 3 Canadian Pricing Starts at $429 CAD, Cellular at $519 CAD
Apple unveiled new Apple Watch Series 3 models today, with an option for cellular capabilities. The upgraded version includes a 70% faster dual-core processor, new W2 wireless chip and barometric altimeter as well.
Here is the Canadian pricing for…
Apple Watch Series 3:
- 38mm for $429 CAD (Series 2 was $489)
- 42mm for $469 CAD (Series 2 was $529)
Apple Watch Series 3 with Cellular:
- 38mm for $519 CAD
- 42mm for $559 CAD
Apple’s website says it will have cellular service in all provinces except Manitoba and Saskatchewan (update: Bell does not have VoLTE in these provinces, hence the lack of support).
For those looking for cellular capabilities, Bell will support Apple Watch Series 3 cellular at launch, with pricing at $5 per month; Telus support is coming next “later this year.” (updated to add Bell’s pricing).
No mention of Rogers at the keynote so looks like they got shut out for the launch, but you can bet they’ll have support soon.
Also, the cellular modem does not support Band 66 LTE, so don’t expect Apple Watch Series 3 to work on Freedom Mobile, until the next upgrade. However, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X will work on Shaw’s wireless carrier.

Only Bell and Telus were announced as launch partners in Canada. I don’t expect to see their sub-brands or Rogers for at least a while.
It also said there that watch and iPhone have to be on the same network. I wonder if carriers will try to lock watches to their network… and when Fido will get on board with this.
The Watch isn’t “totally” independent. It has to be set-up from the phone and will share the phone’s phone number and data connection, etc. So no, you can’t have a watch and your phone on different networks. You do have to pay a monthly fee (I think both Bell and Telus announced $5 per month), to share your account with your watch.
And there surely will be no “locking”, as device locking has been banned by the CRTC, taking fully effect this December.
Oh, that red dot looks ugly and disappointing. Did Apple fire their product designer or something?

What’s the difference with between non LTE Apple Watch 3 and the Apple Watch 2?
The differences I see are the processor:S3 on Series 3 vs. S2 on Series 2 (not sure what that means in terms of real performance) and the Series 2 has a ceramic back vs. a composite back on the Series 3 GPS non-LTE (i.e. a downgrade). You now need to buy the LTE version for the ceramic back. The Series 3 non-LTE is also $60 cheaper than the Series 2 was selling for at the Apple Store Canada yesterday – although Series 2 is now discontinued. The price of a Series 1 has also dropped $30 in Canada.

I don’t think the Aluminium Series 2 had a Ceramic back… It was most likely Composite.
The series 2 watches all had the same back.

Great product but I’m good with my series 2. I would only buy it if I sold my SERIES 2… which I don’t plan on doing. WatchOS 4 adds features that makes me want to keep my watch anyway. Great for those SERIES 0/1 owners though. Besides I already have a cellular iPad so don’t really want to add to my bill. ????
I would like to switch. The only thing is that I would’ve liked it to have a slightly different design just to feel like I am changing for something else.
The $60-cheaper price point for the GPS-only watch (versus the previous Series 2), is interesting! I have to admit I’m very tempted to get a Series 3 watch.

I think since I got my launch day series 0 Watch I’ve only been apart from my phone about 10 times…. yes, we are inseparable. Lol. No cell watch for me as I’m rocking public mobile…… who knows if they will or will not support it? ????
So happy they have a non-cellular version. I always have my phone with me and do not want another device connected 24/7.

I seen some posts on what diff between apple watch 1,2 3. I have LTe watch 3 and my wife has series 1. There is no difference in speed when using phone, email, text, identical,. When opening an app (only app I use is stocard for to pull up air miles) I don`t see any practical difference in speed. The only practical difference is waterproof/gps (no big deal even if you are a jogger) or not and LTE don`t need the phone but if you always have your phone don`t waste your money on LTE version. I bought one because i have a company phone and my personal phone so don`t want to carry 2 phones.
