Several iPhone X Users Experiencing ‘Crackling’ Sounds from Earpiece Speaker

According to a new report from MacRumors, a small number of iPhone X users are experiencing “crackling or buzzing” sounds from their device’s earpiece speaker.

It appears users are reporting this distortion at very high or max volume levels. Various reports on Twitter and Reddit have suggested that the crackling sound will occur with any type of audio playback, including phone calls, music, videos, and alarms.

For those who are unaware, the earpiece on the iPhone X doubles as a speaker that is combined with the speaker at the bottom of the device to create stereo sound.

The report notes that the issue does not appear to be directly correlated with any specific version of the device or of iOS. MacRumors forum member ShadowYYZ said:

“Love the phone but I was wondering if anyone has had any issues with the speakers slightly sounding a little crackling whenever max volume. Noticeable on certain songs and even my ring tone which was bought from the iTunes Store.”

I have tried to reproduce the issue with my own iPhone X, however, I was unsuccessful. Apple has not issued any official statement regarding the matter.
