Fido has a new ‘promo’ available, which is essentially advertising two current offers available to customers, and works out to a $45 plan with 3GB of data.
What you’re seeing in this plan is a 2GB data per month bonus, coupled with a $10/month credit (for 12 months). So after 12 months, this plan will jump back to $55 per month for 3GB of data, which is not a good deal at all, when compared to the recent $60/10GB offer offered by Rogers, Telus and Bell in BC, Alberta and Ontario, to compete with Freedom Mobile.
Of course, a one-time $25 “Transaction Fee” is required for the “processing of service request.”
This promo is not as good as when Fido matched Public Mobile’s $40/4GB plan and doesn’t come close to the $60/10GB plan.
Other promos worth taking a look at instead of this is a 32GB LTE iPad for $299 on a two-year data plan (no term price $619), with a $15 per month 3GB data plan.
Update: A Fido spokesperson emailed to inform us the 2GB data bonus no longer ends after 24 months, as the website now has new terms. The bonus data is permanent as long as you remain on this BYOD plan. This article has been updated to reflect the change.
IMPORTANT: For all customers that have activated or upgraded on this plan since December 14, 2017, the 2 GB Bonus Data will not end after 24 months as was initially indicated. 2GB data bonus available with new activation or phone upgrade on in-market 1GB Data, Talk & Text plans, and 1GB, 4GB and 10GB Fido Pulse plans.

After they have shown that they are capable of offering 10gb/$60, how can they offer this with a straight face..

Currently paying $15 for 3gb and VOIP. I think they’d have to offer that plan at about $18 to get me to sign up for it.

All I can say is I’m glad I’ve left Fido. To think they have the gall to offer a plan like this after showing us what they’re capable of. Not saying this won’t happen with other telcos but it’s especially bad with Rogers/Fido.
Can you tell me who you switched to instead?
Went to Telus purely for network quality. Although they have anecdotal reports of good customer service, that doesn’t mean much in the context of Canadian telecom companies.
To add to that. I have the original $40 for 4 GB plan with fido. Shortly a few months later, they decided to tack on an additional $5 charge to the plan with out any recourse for them modifying the monthly cost. It is still a better plan then what is usually offered. But it was pretty shady of them. Called to complain about the price change, they said they wouldn’t do anything about it. I’ll stay with them until something better comes along.
I got a $5 discount on that one (after they raised it to $45) for two lines. The discount is only good for 9 months. Won’t be surprised if they bump the price again before though.
I took advantage of the $40/4GB plan and sadly they raised it by $5 a few months later. Although Freedom’s coverage is still not as good, I have an awesome plan that I switched to late August/early September. I can use it anywhere in canada and the US for $50/month and even get LTE with my iPhone!
How did you get LTE with your iPhone. Did you buy one from Freedom. I didn’t think you could use a phone that was not one of their specific LTE phones. Would like to know as I would like to sign up my kids with Freedom but they have iPhones from Rogers.
I called fido to complain and they offered a five dollar discount each month for the next six months .
They gave me the discount for 10 months. Bummer dude.
