According to Reuters, Procon-SP, a state agency in Sao Paulo, Brazil, says it has notified Apple it has ten days to notify Brazilian iPhone owners how they can buy battery replacements at new lower prices.
The state agency says it notified Apple employees, who refused to sign the acknowledgement papers, but Procon says it has considered Apple has been notified.
Procon-SP, which is responsible for consumer issues, has the ability to fine companies or suggest legal action, if business practices result in consumer losses.
In late December, Apple apologized for its poor communication over how power management is handled in older iPhone batteries, which resulted in device slowdowns—without customers knowing.
In an effort to make things right, Apple discounted out-of-warranty battery replacements for iPhone 6 or older models, now available in Canada at $35 CAD, regardless of whether your device passes a diagnostic test.
Multiple class action lawsuits have sprung up against Apple over its handling of the battery issue, with one lawsuit in South Korea garnering over 200,000 participants, who claim Apple deceived customers over the slowing down of older iPhones.
