Capital One Canada: ‘No Immediate Plans’ for Apple Pay with Costco Mastercard

While Costco Canada warehouses accept Apple Pay at their terminals (for Mastercard and debit), customers who hold the warehouse’s Capital One Platinum Mastercard have long been wondering when support will arrive for the latter.

Well, we do have an update, if you’ve been looking for one. Andrew Clarke, Manager, Corporate Communications for Capital One, told iPhone in Canada via email the company currently has no plans to launch Apple Pay, when we reached out for an update.

According to Clark, he said “we have no immediate plans to launch Apple Pay, and will continue to evaluate it as well as other payment methods.”

The answer appears to fall in line with what Capital One Canada has been informing customers on Twitter, noting “Right now there is no news regarding Apple Pay, but our community will be among the first to know when we have an update.”

While Capital One in the USA supports Apple Pay, Canadian customers of Capital One credit cards may have to keep waiting for iPhone mobile wallet support to arrive here.

Back in the spring of 2016, Costco Canada said the Capital One Mastercard “won’t be supporting this payment method,” when asked about Apple Pay.

Yesterday, Apple Pay expanded in Canada, reaching Vancity Credit Union in the BC Lower Mainland, and Assiniboine Credit Union, Cambrian Credit Union Limited and Steinbach Credit Union in Manitoba.

Are you waiting for Apple Pay support for your Costco Capital One Platinum Mastercard?

You can’t even make a proper app, and minus the restaurant bonus, the Costco card is a joke

Glad I switched to MBNA. I keep my Capital One Costco card around for, you guessed it, getting into Costco.

Well given that none of Capital One cards in Canada are eligible for Apple Pay, I’m not sure why you’re singling out the Costco MasterCard specifically. If all cards except this one were supported I could understand the article. I only clicked thinking it meant they were supporting other cards.

It was a huge mistake, some say an act of negligence that Costco went with Capital One. There’s been so so many issues with Capital One typically because they’re charging Costco less than others. As such, consumers are being affected.

Last January I received a 300$ rebate coupon from Capital One. Next time I went to Costco I wanted to use the coupon to pay for my purchases but it wasn’t scanning properly and I could not use it. They told me the coupon looked like it was badly photocopied. I contacted Capital One and I’m supposed to receive a new copy of my coupon with my next statement. Not cool.

My AMEX Cobalt gives me 5% at restaurants and groceries, 2% for travel/gas/commute and 1% else. great protections and advantages, Apple Pay support, great app and all that for 10$ a month. They have many benefits of applying for a new card people should check it. Of course not all stores accept it but I’m rarely dissapointed and I’ve learned how to buy with it.

I wonder if MBNA is better ?

I dropped my capital one two years ago when they said they wouldn’t be implementing Apple Pay.

That’s too bad. It’s by far my favourite credit card. The ability through the app to get pinged on every time it’s used is a great way to be notified on every purchase.

What a disappointment! I switched to this credit card because of Costco, and now I’m stuck in an endless claim of evaluating the Apple Pay technology. I’d hate to know how long he implementation phase will be. I don’t know why a company like this would discriminate against Canadians, why not treat Canadians the same as American customers?!?

Theres other Master Card out there, so they refuse to reflect their customer demands ! Well i dropped them, no apple pay, i’m gone. I kept the card just showing that nothing is put on the card anymore. Bye Bye Capital One, lol. You need me more than I need you

costco and captial one should give canadians a discount when purchasing USD items. every other card in canada charges you a currency conversion fee of 2.5% on top of the conversion to canadian dollars. this would be a major benefit for using their card, even though it doesn’t have apple pay. as members, we should all ask for this benefit. i have.

AMEX is the only card to get Apple Pay right. Even if I use a card for any purchase. It will show up on Apple Pay. I bought a laptop and it showed up in Apple wallet. I really wish my visa and MasterCard did this. Apple Pay should be a standard now for all minor and major credit cards. Get it together and let’s all ditch our wallets together. I wish they would let us set our limits for tap for some kind of insurance fee maybe? I see the risk but the inconvenience is real sometimes. Hey it’s $110.00 and you can’t use Apple Pay cause it’s $10.00 over the limit. Please.

Even purchases on different devices don’t show up in the Wallet app. If I buy anything using my Apple Watch, which I do for almost EVERYTHING, it doesn’t show on my iPhone’s transaction list.

Yes. They need to improve the transaction system for MasterCard and Visa system.

The only thing I use this card for is gas at Costco, because it cuts a couple steps at the pumps and makes things faster.

Even inside Costco itself, I’ll just use my debit account via Apple Pay on my watch.

Taiwan’s Cathay United Bank Costco Visa does support Apple, Google, and Samsung Pay. Why not our Canadian Capital One Costco MasterCard?
