Lyft’s Patience Paid Off, Let Uber Battle With Regulators for Years

According to a new report from the Financial Post, Lyft paid off by being patient and delaying their launch into Canada.
The company sat on the sidelines for many years while Uber expanded their services into different parts of Canada. Since their launch in Toronto five months ago, Lyft has gained a total of 10,000 active drivers. In a statement, Lyft’s managing director for Canada Aaron Zifkin said:
“The response has been overwhelming. We think that response will carry across the country and so I’m really eager and excited to get rolled out.”
Since Uber launched in Toronto back in 2012, they have had to go through a number of regulatory battles until the city finally legalized the service back in 2016. When Lyft launched earlier this year, they were able to avoid all of that and focus on customer and driver acquisition.
Lyft continues to expand its market share in the United States and in Canada as the months go on. In Toronto alone, the company has attracted more than 50,000 riders within the first few months.

I hear nothing but good things about Lyft in the USA. Their rates are cheaper than Uber too.
I was a part time Uber driver in Ottawa at launch and they reduced their fair prices twice in the first year. Great for the customer, not so great for the driver. I was making less than min wage. Had to stop. If Lyft is cheaper than Uber, I feel for the drivers.
