OPP Handed Out More Than 11,000 Driving Tickets During Victoria Day Long Weekend

According to a new report from CTV News, the Ontario Provincial Police charged more than 11,000 drivers during the Victoria Day long weekend.

The report notes that more than 10,600 of these were speeding charges, with less than 200 of which were for driving 50 km/h over the speed limit. The OPP said that these numbers are noticeably higher than last year.

A total of three people died over the long weekend, with one road death occurring in western Ontario and two occurring with an off-road vehicle in northeastern Ontario.

During Canada Road Safety Week, which is a campaign that ran from May 15th to 21st, the OPP gave out 726 tickets for not wearing seatbelts, 424 for distracted driving, and 124 for impaired driving.
