Apple to Disclose App Takedown Requests From the Government

Large tech companies around the world have been refining their transparency reports to make them easier to read.

Today, Apple joined the party and released their easier-to-read transparency report. The report noted that Apple will disclose government requests to remove applications from the App Store in all future reports.

This year’s transparency report does not include any mention of these requests. However, in 2019 when the transparency document for 2018 arrives we will be able to see these government app takedown requests. Apple will even be including foreign government requests that relate to apps that violate legal and/or policy provisions.

As governments around the world take increasing interest in the tech world, this course of action by Apple seems crucial for keeping consumers informed.
