YouTube Music iOS App Launches in Canada, Along with YouTube Premium

Back in May, YouTube announced it would launch YouTube Music and YouTube Premium in Canada “soon”, and today that day has come.

YouTube Music is Google’s new streaming music service, which offers personalized music based on your listening habits and location, priced at $9.99 CAD per month and $14.99 per month for Family Plans.

The new service includes access to music videos, albums, singles, remixes, live performances, covers and also “hard-to-find music” only from YouTube. There are also “thousands of playlists across any genre, mood or activity,” while a smart search will find songs even if you forgot the title, even by lyrics.

YouTube Music Premium offers ad-free listening with offline downloads, similar to other premium streaming music services, while YouTube says your Offline Mixtape will automatically download songs in case you forget.

YouTube Music Premium is available with a three month trial “for a limited time.”

YouTube Premium Now Also in Canada

Today also marks the launch of YouTube Premium (formerly known as YouTube Red) in Canada, which also includes Music Premium in its subscription price. Before, YouTube Red was only available in the USA. With YouTube Premium, Canadians can watch all YouTube Originals such as shows and movies. There is also a free three-month trial with YouTube Premium as well.

YouTube Premium is priced at $11.99 CAD per month, or $17.99 per month for a family subscription (up to 6 family members) and pricing includes access to YouTube Music.

For existing Google Play Music subscribers in Canada, they will automatically get access to YouTube Music Premium at their existing price, once it is available. Google Play Music is staying the same as purchased music, uploads and playlists will remain.

The sign up page for these premium YouTube services currently note “coming soon”, but expect the page to go live shortly.
